Last longer than what? Not longer than the hard frickin' steel! It's still just plastic and will wear out quickly getting muddy and driving through brush, taking rock hits on the highway and exposed to the sun. That's what I hated about the fragile clear coat on my F-150, I had to cringe every time I drove on a road that was overgrown. The bare metal of the Cybertruck is proving to be impervious. Everytime I wash it after an excursion I'm amazed how nicely it cleans up.

It makes no sense to protect a hard, durable surface that requires no UV protection, with something soft and damage prone, especially when people like the sheen of the raw metal.

I'm not trying to convince you because it's personal preference, I'm just disagreeing with your view of what makes a good truck. A good truck to me is non-fussy and worry-free. And metal will always look better than plastic to me. I'd rather take the $6 thousand in cash and burn it in a fire pit. ?
Dude the metal panels looked like complete crap from the day I picked it up. Tesla didnt go with appliance grade stainless, that's for sure.

If you think dirtied up stainless with irregular colors, textures, imperfections, pitting, fingerprints etc looks good then a nice uniform colored PPF, more power to you.

But every single person that has seen my truck since the PPF has said it looks so much better and absolutely hated the funky raw metal.

Again, if you're ok with that, awesome - im just curious to see how it looks in a year. Based on how it comes from the factory, and how bad it looks brand new- I'm thinking it only gets worse over time.

Some homeless man under the influence of something came over to my truck and asked "what planet are you from?" The reason it was great is that I don't think this was a joke.

My CT came with a registration sticker that is vertical on the edge of my front window, this is how the service center put it. Some guy said to me "do you always need to be the person that gets something first?" Then he said all the usual things about why he wouldn't get electric "need to charge all the time" and "can't go far" etc. Then he said "if i was still a state trooper, I'd write you a ticket right now for your sticker being the wrong way in your window." It was a truly miserable interaction.
I wasn't laughing at you misery but of other people's reaction. Stay true.

A woman (stranger) came up to me and asked how much is that?
I told her 100K.
She asked again, how much is that?

Thankfully, the Cybertruck is not made of the soft, scratch prone appliance grade stainless steel! I would not have bought it if it was made from refrigerator stainless steel.

Mine looks pretty uniform except for a slight darkening fading in around the perimeter of the door panels. I believe that is heat discoloration from the laser welding used to bond the inner and outer door panels into one unit. It kinda creates a spaceship vibe. The irregular colors are because it reflects whatever colors are around it. I see oranges, blues, reds, browns, greens, etc, it depends on where you park it and what angle you stand to it.

I acknowledge that it's absolutely up to individual personal taste, I've never lived in a big city and I'm probably lacking in the sophistication department. I did view a big city art exhibit once, based entirely on plastic, but it flew right over the head of this country boy. I have trouble enjoying the aesthetics of plastic, you are more likely to find me gawking at some abandoned gas works, with all the rusty metal, or even a fancy big city metal sculpture art exhibit with lots of shiny bits. Don't get me wrong, the special properties of plastic have their place, I use plastic to line my trash bin. I just have trouble appreciating the visual vibe it gives off, or the plasticky way it feels when you touch it.

I think people around here seem so taken with the bare metal look because most are not sophisticated city folk either. Like me, they just follow their inner child, just like the two little boys that came to my front door in awe of my truck.

But every single person that has seen my truck since the PPF has said it looks so much better and absolutely hated the funky raw metal.
Well, either they are far more sophisticated than me, or it's possible that good friends don't want to tell you that you wasted thousands of dollars making it look worse.

Again, if you're ok with that, awesome - im just curious to see how it looks in a year. Based on how it comes from the factory, and how bad it looks brand new- I'm thinking it only gets worse over time.
The bare metal can look however you want it. Endless ways to polish it to create a different look. If you don't like the way it looks in a year, you can brighten it up with a polish in the same amount of time it takes to wash and wax regular car painted with polyurethanes to prevent rusting.

You might not like to see my Cybertruck in a year if I covered it in PPF!

"Is that real?"

"Is that a kit car?"

My favorite one said nothing. Just a kid, early teens, mouth WIDE open staring at the CT. After I pass he seems to realize that he's just standing there gaping, starts sprinting and fumbling in his pockets. Drops his phone, runs back for it. By then I can't see him and I'm giggling to myself. Hope he didn't sprain anything
You really should have gone around the block.

There's a wrap on here that has a matte brushed SS look, and I couldn't help but think THAT'S the finish that tesla should have aimed for.

The OEM finish isn't final. You can modify it however you want. Just don't polish it more than a few thousand times, it might start to get too thin!

Did you build this?
I've gotten the "Did you build this?" one now 3 times.

Kids seem to know everything about it already. Many adults seem to know nothing about it, which I found very surprising.

Overwhelmingly positive! So many thumbs up and pictures.

Had three teenagers in three separate cars follow me to my house yesterday, if one of the teens wasn't driving a tesla already I would have been worried.

We get a ton of reactions everyday here in Connecticut. Like each and every day.

And nearly all positive.

The odd negative reaction is boomers in beat-up work trucks with Trvmp stickers - they will usually give me the bird or yell something obscene. Whatever. I give them a thumbs-up back. The super positive reactions from 99 out of 100 people make it super fun.

Best reaction by far from people is when I walk away, the CT auto-locks and lets loose a massively loud and random fart. Makes just about everyone laugh.

Mine is still the only one in my small town and people are mostly super-nice about it. Lifted truck guys especially. I was sitting in it at the grocery store yesterday- I’m on crutches so can’t get out & walk around, and talked to maybe six people about it in ten minutes. The most enthusiastic was a guy in his fifties who was driving a nicer Chevy truck than I’d ever buy for myself.
But I like people and don’t concern myself at all with their ideas about it; range anxiety, serviceability and stuff. I’m the one living with it and it does me no harm for them to live with whatever ideas they have.
I haven’t seen anyone negative about it who could actually afford one.

What is your best public interaction?

Mine happened twice this weekend:

1) Walked out of grocery store and several people stopped to ask the normal questions. I was showing a young lady, about 17-21 year old and answering her questions. She says, "I was doing some sketches and showed me. Then she asked if I wanted one. Thank you Kelly! I'm going to frame this.

2) Next parking lot, a gushing young lady about 12-14. I ran all the way from Walmart to see this. Can I look inside? Of course, sit in it if you want. She was so excited to check it out. "I can't believe I'm seeing up close". It was great to see her absolute joy. I think it exceed my joy seeing it for the first time at delivery.

An absolutely amazing vehicle. Wish I had recorded her reaction. What's your best interaction?
