Because Tesla doesn't allow it.

The only way for that to work is to hack the system. Tesla blocks charging while driving. There was a Youtuber who hacked the software/hardware to work, but again, you then have a high chance that any battery issues or charging issues will not be covered and potentially not repaired by Tesla. If you are ok with that, great, but it's not a solution for the masses.

It's not an opinion, it's a fact.
I think the argument is "Tesla should allow it" not that it's "Not allowed", we know it's not allowed. You seem to be against the idea that Tesla should not offer this, and we want to know why. (I personally don't think it's needed) but you seem to have stronger feelings that no-one should have this, why?

I don't have feelings that Tesla should or shouldn't. I know they don't and they likely will not in the future. Elon has said it's a "silly" idea when asked about it.

I'm saying it's a bad idea for CT owners because Tesla will not allow it and know the history of how Tesla handles people modifying critical components. This has been something that people have been trying to get Tesla to do since 2012 and one person did it on their own, famously.

Again, I never said anything about hacking the system. I said I would like to have that option and that's a fact. The engineering is possible and it would be prudent to have Telsa provide the option so that it would be fully integrated with the system.

I'm not sure why people get so angry about other people's opinions. Being polite doesn't take too much effort.

It's fine to want this to work.

I said it's a bad idea because Tesla does not and likely will never allow it.

It's like me saying I want my Cybertruck to fly...that's fine, but if I post a plan to make it fly...people will likely call it dumb...and when something goes wrong, Tesla will not cover it.

Also, the last person that actually successfully did this was not allowed to bring the car back to Tesla for service (Although it appeared they brought it in as part of the YT joke).

I think you are misinterpreting my posts as saying you're wrong for wanting it. I'm simply saying it doesn't and won't work on a Tesla without hacking the system and that creates it's own list of issues.

Edit: If Tesla offered this would I buy it? Yes.

Will they? No. They are pretty clear about that.

I would love to be able to throw a generator in the back of the pickup and turn it on if I needed it for areas where there are no charging stations. And to boot, be able to charge while I'm driving.
So this is my original post. Nothing was stated about hacking my pickup to charge with an generator/inverter. And then I thought is would be great to be able to do that while driving. It is very possilbe for Telsa to integrate that into their system. Now Tesla may never want to do that and that is fine. But seriously, people can have opinions. If you disagree, fine, but state the technical facts. Also, calling someone stupid does not promote good discussions.

And gosh, thanks for giving me permission to have an opinion.

Geez, chill a little. Life isn't that bad.

It's not stupid to want. Polling shows most would prefer a gas generator on an EV to help on rare occasions. That's why Ford, Dodge, Scout, and soon Chevy will offer this.

Many on here want a pure EV and that's fine, too, but as Elon said about EREVs, it's a different approach.

No need to post anymore links for me. This thread went completely off the rails.
