I'm debating whether or not to purchase an OEM light bar and installing it myself vs waiting for the possibility of a light bar coming out. Initially I thought for sure it would come out but now with all these stories of light bars flying off not so sure anymore any thoughts on the matter?

I _speculate_ it wont. It seemed to have been a bit of an after thought, and became available only in drips and dribbles for the beast. It looks nice and that seems to be the only redeeming quality; light output is very minimal and you’ll need to dig through the menus to turn it on (though Tesla could make that easier to access in a future software).

Also, there is no cover for it which makes it illegal in many (?) states. I didn’t think much of that but wouldnt you know it, an LA cop stopped me (for something unrelated) and mentioned it (didn’t get a ticket nor warning, but could have i guess).

Many SC seemed to be a bit sloppy putting them on, i see seceral mounted a bit too high or uneven - mine is a bit of both. When washing the wieldshield, there is always a trickle of water coming down right in the middle from water held by the bar, annoying.

Whenever i need to replace my windshield, that bar goes with it, its not worth the trouble vs super minimal benefit.

I bought one and installed it myself. So far so good. I like my installation method much better than teslas.

I don’t know how probable the Tesla release is but you only live once. I’d say, keep your ear to the ground and if you find a good deal on one, go for it. If it’s what you want it will keep nagging at you. It did me. It’s the nature of unobtainium.
Yeah you are part of the problem haha I've been following your thread on that install and you did.
Nice job by the way. You are going to get me in trouble with the wifey for sure

Haha. Sorry. I’ll change my handle to ā€œHemiarch, installer of lightbars and wrecker of marriagesā€.
Thanks for the compliment. So far it seems to be holding up just fine but I’ll keep updating that thread. I think there are lots of people interested in a way to do that without all the Tesla goop and problems.

I’d bet money they’ll sell it as soon as they nail down how to attach it properly. They already designed it, why not make some money off it?
