After bringing home a few bags of concrete and wood to build a fence (no idea if it was related, just happened to be what I did prior to this, I have towed campers and had weight in the back before), my next drive an alert popped up that my rear motor was disabled and my max speed at first was 58 MPH, then every drive after that it was 65 MPH. Below are some pictures from the service menu, looks like some inverter issue. Truck is already with service as I was bringing it in for something minor, but no timeline yet on when it will be fixed.

The one nice thing about this was that I could still drive the truck. In fact the Tesla guy was a little surprised I was able to drive it in as it just turned off the rear motor. You could clearly feel the lack of power, and as you got really close to 65 it was actively stopping me from going any faster. But I was happy I could still drive the truck, since I have been meaning to take it at one of those OHV offroad parks, and if it had died out there, at least having one motor is better than none to get out.

I started recording a Trip B on my trip meter when it happened just to see how efficient only a front wheel drive would be. It started off much worse at over 500 watts / mile, but over some distance and some highway driving with just me it started to get closer to my regular average. The truck had roughly 7600 miles on it when it happened.

Once I find out from Tesla what is going on I'll update you guys, but wanted to mention it to those who are curious. I still love the truck and I know this is just one of those things that could happen to an early adopter. I was also an early Model 3 adopter and I had a couple issues with that but nothing like this. FYI my truck is in the VIN 007XX range, picked up Jan 31st.

Gotta use my loaner Y as a replacement to finish my fencing project since my motor died in the middle of it.

I got my truck back yesterday, was the inverter that needed replacing, not the motor itself. I don't believe they swapped out any motors on my truck for a potentially more efficient one.

Happen to me last night in LA (I live in NorCal.) Nightmare situation. Tow truck dropped it off at Burbank and crickets from Tesla so far. Supposed to be camping this week in Mojave using the Cybertent. Slept in the rental car last night. Picked up 1 Feb, VIN 648

Rear but it wouldn’t move. It said it might reset if I exit the vehicle, so I did. Then it shut down and locked me out. I sat on the curb for 4 hours waiting for the tow truck while pissing off the entire city of Burbank in rush hour. I tried resetting it a few times and putting it in off-road mode to try to get it out of the street. Didn’t help.

Oh sorry to hear that! Mine was relatively easy to deal with.
