I've seen many setups for installing a replacement mirror that's a display, for showing the rear view, but they all require installing a redundant rear view camers. Has anyone figured out how to view the video stream from the rear camera that's built into Teslas? In the Cybertruck, I'd love to have a display replace the backup mirror that shows the rear camera view, it'd be much easier to install, just tap into the "etherloop" ethernet and power cabling that's run to the front cameras. The tricky part is figuring out how to access the video stream. But then it'd be a nice simple install!

Haven't heard of such a product yet, and I think the reason is because the video stream is probably encrypted for security reasons.

There is a slight chance Tesla releases a retrofit mirror that will display a very wide view of the sides and rear; but I would count on them modifying the UI of the center creen first, so that we have the repeater cameras visible along with the rear view.

Before we go full camera, Telsa needs to figure out the issue with the rear camera fouling up. Even the slightest rain renders it almost useless, unfortunately.

Unless something has changed on the Cybertruck (or newer Tesla models in general), the camera feeds are simple HDMI (or similar) video feeds running into the AP computer. I had an MMI for my 2016 Model X (AP2) that gave me an HDMI input (for cell phone mirroring or whatever) that I could toggle the rear camera input. Basically an HDMI switch with a canbus controller that passed either the original rear camera or my HDMI input to the main display.

It should be possible to split the rear camera output, crop and alter the output and route it to a video mirror display.

Once vendors stop just trying to resell overpriced dashcam kits as Cybertruck mirrors, maybe we'll get some real engineering.

yeah, we'll just have to wait and see! I'm not sure what Tesla has going on with their new(er) etherloop system.

What I would love: an official tesla store rear view digital mirror that you can buy that is an "Authorized" way to view the video cambus/HDMI video feed. I would say has anyone been able to look at the wiring that's in the rear view area, and see if perhaps Tesla made it future-proof by adding a way to view the camera feed by a future attachment?

It would stand to reason it was cut for $$$ reasons, but they at least left the potential wiring harness behind so you can add it on in the future once they got past production
