I agree it will get better overtime, but with generations taking 5 or more years generally… that’s like saying just wait between 15 and 25 years. Unless you meant wait a few years
I mean I would wait for 3-5 years for Tesla to iron everything out.

I am seeing many Youtube posts making the case for the Cybertruck being a total failure and even surpassing the Edsel as the worst new car failure ever.
I have a Foundation CT on order, awaiting recall repairs for the cantrail issue so I haven't received my CT yet.
I am growing concerned that maybe this purchase is a mistake. The FUD is working.
Also, I am thinking if I hold out a little longer, until the 1st quater earnings call, maybe there will be some serious additional incentives on the CT if Tesla really does need to start moving these trucks due to super low sales and all the issues with panels falling off, etc.
I would sure appreciate the community's feedback on this.
First you're ready to cancel due to someone's opinion, then you want to hold out for a lower price.
There are a LOT of people, like myself, who are extremely pleased with our purchase at any price.
I guess you just need to make up your mind and be happy either way!

It’s a business flop. Won’t sell anywhere near how much they had planned. The headlines are crafted to make it seem like it flopped because it’s a bad car. It’s too expensive and polarizing for a lot of people so there aren’t many buyers. But I think the vast majority of owners are happy with their trucks.
My advice is, don't buy if you're looking for an investment! I bought mine for personal gratification; and it's doing just that!

You canceled your order because it probably won't last 1,000,000 miles?
How many ICE cars have you bought with that expectation?

There's no question that it's a flop, and that's coming from someone who really really likes their truck even though I paid a premium for it.

Even before all the Elon/Tesla hate started the truck just had far too polarizing an appearance for most people to find acceptable.

On the plus side, this means that Tesla is going to be very highly motivated to;

1. Reduce the price further.
2. Do a facelift cosmetic redesign of the truck at the inside of the 3-4 year window.

I just hope that some of the real technical accomplishments for the truck like the air suspension, four wheel steering, etc. survive any redesign work.

Keep in mind that when the CT design was being finalized there were an entire team of engineers in Tesla who went pretty far in designing a more conventional looking truck because they were concerned of exactly what is happening.... people just not accepting it.

I have personally lost track of the number of people who have walked by my truck when it's parked and I'm eating outdoors and can overhear the comments and they've said some variation of:

"f&ing weird!"
"it doesn't look like a truck"
"soooo ugly!!!"
"why did they do it like that"
"It doesn't even have a truck bed it has a trunk"

Etc.

The people who are going to be the hardest hit in all of this are people who bought the truck instead of leasing it. Resale value in 2-3 years if a new updated and more popular model is released is going to take a very brutal hit.

Ignore the FUD, it’s an amazing truck. But you do need to be supremely self-confident in the decision, so your hater-encounters don’t bring you down.
Go test drive one and then decide whether it’s good enough to own & drive, for you and only you. Can’t let the idiocracy ruin an engineering marvel, regardless how weird or politically-triggering it is to people around you.

As the owner to a CT for over a year, along with Tesla cars, you are being subject to propaganda by others in my opinion. It is my favorite Tesla to drive, the four wheel Drive-by-Wire, is unsurpassed. The veritable heigh air suspension provides a very comfortable ride, lowering for ease of getting in and out. The Gen4 Full-Self-Driving is superior to Gen3 and I am confident it will get better. Zero maintenance cost other than cleaning chemicals for the year. The stereo is all you could ever want. Just read the detailed specification, it is most all you could think of for a Vehicle. And it will get better as time goes on like unsupervised FSD, etc.

I got my FS CT on June 3 (manufactured 2nd week of May). I don't drive much anymore and only have 4,976 miles as of today. I love the CT and have not had any problems or complaints. Many of the complaints I have seen are from people who have a lot of miles, drive it hard, and off road, although it should be able to do that. Since it is a new vehicle, I expected it to have some problems, but I got lucky (I hate to put that in writing, and hopefully, this won't change my luck). FSD is nothing short of unbelievable. I used it 100% of the time since I got it at the end of Sept. I sometimes wonder why I can't send it to pick up a dozen bagels without me having to go along for the ride, maybe when I get Optimus.

Steer-by-wire is so amazing that I wouldn't like driving my wife's new Model X if it wasn't for FSD. The Powershare saved me $15,000 on a natural gas generator I wanted and don't need now. If you own a business, you may be able to take a Sec 179 tax deduction because it is over 6,000 lbs. Sec 179 allows you to speed up cap depreciation to the first year of ownership.

The number of sales will probably be horrible compared to Tesla's expectations. It would have sold much better as an SUV. Tesla should consider offering in both configurations. I would have bought it as an SUV. I would prefer an SUV, and I don't need a pickup, but I'm ok with it as a pickup because of the hard electric tonneau cover.

Most of the articles I see about CT or Tesla are intentionally negative, factually inaccurate, and ridiculous.

It's better not to get your education from YouTube. Many of the videos I watch are full of misinformation and/or are made by AI. I just watched a video about the top small handguns, and it provided substantially incorrect information, making the video worthless. My wife constantly asks me if a video is true, and it rarely is, at least the ones she watches.

I really hope you’re not making purchases based on YouTube reviewers. I have a Foundation CT and love it. No regrets at all. Referencing the ‘Edsel’ is a red flag as to bias against Tesla in general, not the CT. Why not compare it with the Delorean? Maybe because it’s still a ‘beloved’ car.🤣

The truth is going to be the CT sales numbers which are going to be horrible.

I will vouch for being more than happy with my Cybertruck and its 13000 miles of trouble free efficient operation since I bought it.

Basing your decision on biased YouTube videos isn't the best idea. If you like the truck, buy it. Just be prepared for the depreciation that hits Teslas and most EVs these days.

As a Foundation CT Owner; Buy it because you want it/need it...and don't be concerned about what others think.

It simply drives incredibly, after driving mine for 10,000 miles, I really notice how bizarre driving a gas car is...

It does not drive like a truck, at all. It is the most comfortable vehicle to drive, handles exceptionally well. It is very stable and well planted at speed, slow and bumps, etc.

I am happy with my CT, never look back, going to drive it until it is dead.

Regards
Jack

It is not a flop, but if you cherry pick data is can be commented to be.

We know 3 things for fact.
1. Tesla is price positive at least on the Cyberbeast (This was mentioned by Elon at the Q3 Shareholders meeting.)
2. The CT isn't available in all the countries that you could register for it, so there is room for demand.
3. Of the 2.2 million preorders around 60% of them where for the RWD variant at $39,990. This is the biggest stickler, if people were waiting for a 60k version (Assumed with the AWD price on launch) and they now see what the RWD is going for, they may go for that price or the AWD's.

Personally I hate the price for the LR RWD. I think it shows some major weakness in COGs. The price may be an indicator of the break even point for the CT.

For 100k Trucks, the CT is 50% of sales.

for 80k Trucks the CT is 25% of sales.

36k sold in 1 year is not a lot by the Model Y standard, but it is a lot compared to Ford's F-150 Lightning and the Rivian R1T.

By ICE Truck standards it is a flop, but lets be serious it was never going to out sell the F-150 in the first few years. The Jeep Gladiator, which sold around 43,000 in 2024, is probably the closest comparison. (it's max MSRP is around 62k)

By safety standards, it is a absolute success.

By towing expectations, it is a flop. (I am an optimist that there will be a software update that give s 25% more towing range. But that may be a very hard rabbit to pull.)

If we cherry pick data is is a flop, but if all the data is taken in it can be considered a successful launch of a all new platform.
