Folks,

CT complains about trailer lights randomly. Inspection doesn't reveal any issues - lights seem to work, so do the brakes. After parking for a few minutes icon is blue and is good for the rest of the trip. Has anyone run into that ?

I have had it report red icon on 2 tows with no wiring issue. Couldn’t confirm if there were brake lights or not. Cleared it one time by replugging in and second time doing the test trailer lights cleared it. I did not have it go back to blue on its own.

Is your trailer newish with LED lights, or more on the older side with incandescents ? I'm wondering if it has to do with the resistance and/or current draw of the lights.

I should have added it’s a 2022 aluminum trailer with basic led, side
Markers and two led strip bars.

I have a single led bar for
My bike rack and when plugged in the led will function but there is also a dim flicker. I have resistor I’m going to add to it to see if it goes away.

Mine is a 2024 utility trailer, I believe all the lighting on it is LED. So maybe the current draw is bordeline low to where CT is thinking that one or more bulbs failed ?

if you get it again log a service ticket for it and tell them to check the logs. I waited too long and it was overwritten (several weeks).

I had this issue on my jetski trailer. The lights were working, but it was a flaky wiring harness. After I replaced the harness, it didn’t come back. Maybe the truck is just picky?

I think it is the harness, I had the red trailer on the screen and my left taillight was not on, I jiggled the plug and put a velcro strap around the cover and plug and the taillight came back on and the red light went out.

In my case it's a brand new trailer, shouldn't have any harness issues.

One owner reported it didn't like the lack of a reverse light...

That's an interesting one! I certainly did a bunch of backing with the trailer, and it may have flipped to red at that time. I will pay attention to that next time to confirm.

Needed to tow today, and paid attention to the trailer icon after hooking up the trailer. Indeed, the moment you put CT into reverse, icon turns red. They probably will need to add a trailer customization to specify which features are present on the trailer so that failure detection logic does the right thing.
