So I got the OEM updated off road light bar from eBay. Got the brackets, 3M tapes and screws. Love saving thousands of dollars and the end result is phenomenal.

Drilling to get the ribnut was intense, but I've done it being the first one to retrofit a HEPA filter on a 2020 MY. Now looking to test them out off roading.

Love the UI integration. And dimming capability.

Enjoy and ask away!

Total project cost ~$500

$500 seems like too much for just the brackets, and too little for a light bar.
Any links?

Congratulations on the light bar install it looks great! Nice job finding the brackets too.
I’ve had the same brand-new light bar sitting in my garage for the past four months. I bought it off eBay as well, but I’ve been struggling to source the mounting brackets.
I’ve already checked with the Tesla service center, but had no luck there either.
If anyone can point me in the right direction or knows where I can get a set of brackets, I’d really appreciate the help. Thanks!

I have a good relationship with my SC, I've retrofitted a several things for my MY with their help.

Try another SC. Good luck mate.

it takes a special kind of confidence to drill a half inch hole in the stainless steel roof of your $100,000+ CT.
It was the most nerve racking thing to do, honestly, but I'm really happy with the outcome, especially not needing to do the soldering and just plugging into the B pillar connector for an OEM install.

Not hard at all. Also, the hole isn’t drilled in the stainless, it’s drilled in the aluminum casting beneath the roof appliques.

Take your time, double-check your marks, use a good automatic center punch and sharp bits with a little oil. Took about 5 minutes per side. EZPZ

If anyone is willing to source the mounting brackets and any other parts I need for the OEM light bar, I’d really appreciate it. I’ve already checked with my local Tesla Service Center and had no luck. (Don’t have the option to go to another)
I’d be happy to make it worth your while for your time and effort. Please send me a DM if you can help. Thanks!

Nice work, OP!!

I just installed mine last week. I got mine from eBay as well. Luckily one of my local SC’s agreed to sell me the install parts.

Remember you don’t *need* the brackets.

The new install procedure uses 3M 1500 VHB tape. Properly installed (clean surface, using adhesive promoter) that lightbar won‘t be going anywhere. The brackets seem to be more of an insurance policy for the variability in how well SC‘s were following the install procedure.

Just make sure you get *real* 3M VHB. According to a well-known vendor @AO-Pete most of the stuff for sale on Amazon is fake and won’t hold up. Here in the USA, a roll of the real stuff goes for about $50. On Amazon, they cost $10.

Thanks, I appreciate it. I completely understand. I’ve already bought genuine 3M VHB tape along with the 3M adhesive promoter, so I’m ready to install it. I’m just holding out for the brackets because I’d like that extra peace of mind and guarantee. If I can’t get my hands on a set, then I’ll just go the no bracket route. Thanks again for the advice!
