Welp, they’re here.
Tesla Cybertruck S/X refresh is live (and underwhelming) Attachment

Tesla Cybertruck S/X refresh is live (and underwhelming) Attachment

Summary of changes:
• S Plaid exterior was redesigned and looks a little more aggressive than the AWD on the front and back, kinda like the 3 Performance
• There is, brace yourself for this shocker, an ambient light strip on the interior
• Range has improved a little bit, except for the S AWD, that stayed the same ?‍♂
• They’re all $5K more expensive now
• One new color, frost blue metallic (and the diamond black came over from the 3/Y if you want to count that)
• New wheels all around, pretty cool-looking ones
• Yokes are now a Plaid-only option

What didn’t change is any 0-60 times. It seems Tesla is tipping its hat to Lucid and saying good game. Really more like “nice work, but we only care about autonomy now.” That’s all well and good, but it would have been nice to see the S Plaid return to the top spot.

No SbW either ☹ No mention of PowerShare. Lars was right, that was “a little bit” of love.

It's a nice update with overdue ambient lighting, but at this price point, I'd go with the Cybertruck any day!

It is quite mind-boggling that anyone would buy an X AWD for $90K over a CT AWD for $80K (or $72.5K for some people)

Maybe it's just me, but I was most surprised by the absence of the "signature" front light bar, as seen on the Cybertruck, Model Y Juniper, and Cybercab. I just assumed that this would be a distinctive feature of all new Teslas going forward, but apparently not.

I realize that the S/X are no longer big sellers, so maybe there is no budget for a substantial redesign. But adding the "signature" light bar would have been a relatively inexpensive cosmetic change, and it would have at least made the S/X look newer.

Very underwhelming. No PowerShare but a bit of cosmetic number changes again. These aren't flagship cars by far.
It is getting increasingly hard to justify their price. What does the S offer that the 3 doesn’t? Some range and some size? Still, with that extra size (if we’re being honest), 3 adults DO NOT fit comfortably in the rear seats of an S. It isn’t worth $30K+ over a 3. Not even close.

I said something similar the first time we took delivery of the Highland - it’s so good that it will canibalize the S. We just bought Model Y Juniper last week and same - I don’t see much value in paying twice more for a Model X.

S & X are more of sentimental line up and not worth of major refresh but still a status symbol. People want/wish for a major upgrade but will be overwhelmed of the price-so, Tesla has to play a balancing act.

Will they still get free supercharging?
Don’t know if I’m going to upgrade for a $5k light strip . Definitely wouldn’t if that meant losing lifetime supercharging.

No more free supercharging. That’s over, even for inventory “old” ones it seems. Mobile charger is included for new ones, though. Take that straight to the bank.

Not only that, but reportedly the new MS Plaid has a lower top speed than my ‘23 MS Plaid and I paid $10k less!!!

Pound for pound, my Plaid is the best deal that I’ve had with Tesla. Got it after the massive price drop, transferred FSD even got it during the window where I was able to run Steam on it. Right after they stopped charging you MORE for round steering wheel. Perfectly timed on that one!

I’m glad I’m not one of these guys who gets less enjoyment out of their other vehicles because of their CT. There isn’t a single one of my cars that doesn’t still cause me to turn my head and look back at it and marvel that I was in a position to be able to acquire it.

That’s a no brainer on the “no thank you” for me then. We transferred free supercharging from our 2016 x to our 2024 x right before they hiked the price $5k and started giving free SC to everybody.
I guess we can resume feeling “special” again.
only wish I had gotten that lucky with our FS.

Are they ever going to have a gen 2 of the S and X? S is essentially 13 year old styling outside of some minor bumper changes.
Very unlikely... the cost of making significant changes is tremendous (R&D, supply chain, retooling, training, inventory etc etc). For a vehicle that contributes so little to Tesla's bottom line, chances are that unless Elon takes that as a vanity project, the S/X will never see a new platform.

Maybe some time right after the roadster…????
Now there’s a fabulous way to spend speculative money is NOT what I would tell my younger self if I had a Time Machine.
If I’m being honest I was a little surprised the Cybertruck actually materialized into a real (and awesome) product. Happy it did.
