Read that Tesla are offering recent non luxe S and X buyers the ability to upgrade their vehicle to luxe package for $2000.

It does make you wonder what's stopping them from doing the same for FS owners that didn't get lifetime supercharging...

It does make you wonder what's stopping them from doing the same for FS owners that didn't get lifetime supercharging...

It's a fair question, and nobody outside Tesla knows the answer for sure. But here is something to think about.

Tesla recently made the Luxe Package a standard feature on the Model S and Model X. At the same time, they raised the prices of the MS and MX by $10,000. The obvious implication is that the Luxe Package adds $10,000 of value to those models.

We also know that FSD (which is included in the Luxe Package) is priced at $8,000. So the $10,000 cost for the Luxe Package should include $8,000 for FSD, and $2,000 for all the other stuff (Free Supercharging, Premium Connectivity, Premium Service, Windshield & Tire Protection.)

The new upgrade offer only applies to recent MS and MX purchases that included FSD. So if you paid $8,000 for FSD, you can now add the rest of the Luxe Package for $2,000. So you would pay a total of $10,000 to get all Luxe Package features -- which is exactly the same as what current MS and MX buyers are paying. So the $2,000 upgrade offer makes sense.

Now let's think about the Cybertruck. Tesla recently made the Luxe Package a standard feature on the Cyberbeast. At the same time, they raised the price of the Cyberbeast by $15,000. The implication is that the Luxe Package is worth $15,000 on a CT (as opposed to only $10,000 on an MS or MX).

Why the $5,000 difference? The cost of FSD should be no different for the CT. You wouldn't expect Premium Connectivity or Premium Service to cost more either. So Tesla apparently thinks that Free Supercharging and/or Windshield Protection and/or Wheel & Tire Protection should cost more on a CT than on an MS or MX. Like $5,000 more. I don't know if that is reasonable, but that's what Tesla's pricing implies.

So in theory, sure, Tesla could offer Luxe upgrades to CT owners, if they previously purchased FSD. But based on Tesla's Luxe Package pricing for the Cyberbeast, the cost of the Luxe upgrade on a CT should be $7,000 -- not $2,000 like on the MS or MX.
