I have not purchased a starlink yet but is there just the one version of it ?

I see this on the west marine site for $299
Starlink Standard Kit - High-Speed Satellite Internet | West Marine

Is that the only think needed. along with the monthly subscription ?
I suggest the Starlink mini. It is perfect for the job as the router is contained in the notebook-sized antenna. A regular Starlink is great where you have the antenna on top a house roof and the router inside for better WiFi range where you want it. So while you probably wouldn’t want a mini on top a house, it’s awesome on/in the CT, at the camp site, or even battery powered on your hike.

I’m currently driving the beast from FL to CA, working remote during the day and driving before and after work hours. I started with the Starlink mini suction cup mounted to the roof glass but the orientation wasn’t good enough for consistent TEAMS meetings (multiple drops and reacquires). The Starlink app gives a great realtime graphic for optimal orientation but reparking the truck while looking at that isn’t the way to enter a supercharger stall. So I took it down and just sat it on the dash where it’s at the proper tilt and can be spun around for the proper orientation independent of my parking direction. Works great!

Only negative was later that night some young men in an ICE truck next to me begged me to floor it so I did and launched the Starlink into the back of the display screen. Amazingly it only marred the paint. Whew!

Photo shows my back seat work station using camp mode.

The bottom of the Mini antenna doesn't look all that flat. Still, there are large anti-slip dash mats, big enough for not just a phone but a couple more similar sized items too. That might reduce the amount it will slip, although a beast mode launch may well make a projectile out of anything not properly secured. :)

The last picture i attached was driving south from Richmond BC to US boarder. Actually during whole day driving ( from Seattle to Vancouver), the only time the connection dropped was in the tunnel under Fraser River between Richmond and Delta. My wife was working at the back seat and VPN was very sensitive to the Internet connection drop. starlink mini seem does not care about the direction much.

You can just plug it into either of the two console 115V outlets. In my case, I plug a USB-C PD cable into a rear console USB port and then into a EGo battery inverter that I plug the Starlink into. That gives me protection for an outlet shutting off because I accidentally exited camp mode or I plugged into a Level 2 charger (both of which will shut off the outlets). My inverter has a 115V outlet that I can plug the Starlink into but I just have an aftermarket USB-C to DC plug cable that is a lot shorter and less clutter.
Can you explain this daisy chain setup further? I have all of the equipment but am trying to understand why I would do it this way. Is the USB C PD from console to EGO inverter doing anything? I would think that connection isn’t providing meaningful power to the EGO battery?

Probably not a good idea to put the dish so close to your body while receiving a signal. That’s basically setting yourself up as a radiation exposure test subject.

from SpaceX FCC filing:

SpaceX Services will ensure installation of HP ESIM terminals on vehicles, vessels, and aircraft by qualified installers who have an understanding of the antenna's radiation environment and the measures best suited to maximize protection of the general public and persons operating the vehicle and equipment. An HP ESIM terminal exhibiting radiation exposure levels exceeding 1.0 mW/cm² in accessible areas, such as the exterior surface of a radome, will have a label attached to the surface of the terminal warning about the radiation hazard and will include thereon a diagram showing the regions around the terminal where the radiation levels could exceed the maximum radiation exposure limit specified in 47 C.F.R. § 1.1310 Table 1.

Hi, for those of you placing the mini on the dash, do you notice any significant or annoying reflection from the dish onto the windshield? I currently have a standard, but I’m going to switch to a mini so that I can use it in my cybertruck. Does anyone know if there’s any aftermarket demand for the standard dishes or whether Starlink has any kind of a buyback plan? Thanks!
