For the past month or so, I was experiencing pretty noticeable vibration in my “squircle” on my Cyberbeast at 70 and definitely at 80+ mph.

Took it in to Tesla today for my first tire rotation at 6k miles and asked for a balancing too.

This completely fixed the issue and I can once again surprise myself when I’m going 90 without knowing.

I attribute the problem to potholes and hitting curbs during turns in earlier versions of FSD.

For others who may experience something similar, but the vibration occurs at lower speeds or you feel it in the chassis on the vehicle: the root cause could be a piece of the foam inside the tire detached itself. It feels like the tire is out of balance.

This happened to our Model 3.

Others who feel the vibration between 50 -70 and if on a perm mag drive unit rev.6 or less it could be the drive unit. I recently had mine replaced and it totally fixed the vibration.

My MS had this too. Amazing how smooth it was once the shop removed the small piece of rogue foam apparently being tossed around.

Can confirm this totally fixed my vibration as well at various speeds. I'm glad I had them fix it before they installed the winter tire package because the new tires are way louder and would have made it very difficult to single out the specific noise/vibration that was coming from the drive unit.

This happened with my cybertruck as well they changed the whole front left tire thinking it would fix the vibration at 125km per hour, I told them the problem wasn’t fixed so I went back to the dealer and the. Problem was the foam moved out of place. Never heard of this problem before. But they fixed it after the second attempt I’m cool with that.

Amazing how many variations in causes for the same symptoms!

You'll see this in alot of EV forums: it's just amazing how much noise/vibration something small will do when you don't have that constant vibration of an engine to mask it.

Yeah the foam is just glued on, so I guess it’s easy for it to detach.

I don’t really know where it’s located but it’s near the tire the service center guy told me this but he didn’t get into detail. They should know.

Tesla tires have a sheet of circular foam WITHIN each tire, and if it detaches from the interior rubber it can actually cause vehicle vibration. The foam is intended to lessen road noise from being transferred through the tire and into the cab.

I have this issue with my X. Had DiscountTire balance the wheels twice and Tesla once.
Still get the steering wheel shakes at 70+MPH

Was it your front tire that had loose foam?
I assume I need to go get the front tires removed and foam checked? Or rear too?

I had my tires road force balanced (different from a regular tire shop static balance). The road force measure showed one of the four tires being very unbalanced in the tire by 13 ounces which the shop said the tire should be replaced. I put on my identical spare (which was in spec) and it fixed the issue! See photo
