Thanks for the replies everyone. I'll try to find another CT to compare with but if sounds like some of you have noticed the same thing. The ported subs sound like a real possibility. Does anyone know if the single sub in the MY is sealed? Maybe that difference is what I'm hearing.

That wouldn't work for Cybertruck since it has distributed amplifiers with their own DACs, so anything you feed would be resampled.
Understood. Still wish they had this functionality though, as I have for the last 11 years with my Model S.

Cheers

Hi everyone,

One of the things I kept hearing about was that the CT audio system was out of this world. Now that I have it, I'm underwhelmed and think maybe I have a problem. On the ride home from delivery, I noticed a rattle from the rear seat area that I assumed was the cause of the "muddy" bass. No problem I thought, I can fix that (or take it to service). I attempted to pop off the rear wall lower trim ( Passenger Compartment Carpet - End Item, Rear Wall Lower Trim, Soft Trim (Remove and Install) (tesla.com) ) to poke around and look for loose wires etc. but even with those instructions, I couldn't find all the attachment points and ended up breaking some clips and still didn't get it all the way off. I did manage to solve the rattle I was hearing by pushing it back together and I thought I'd solved the problem.

Now, listening to it more, the bass is still sort of muddy/distorted. It's hard to explain but there is something there. Even at low volumes, it's not clean bass. The problem is, I can't constantly reproduce it. I downloaded a frequency generator for my phone to see if I could isolate the specific frequencies but can't seem to reproduce it with a single tone. Playing with the fader and balance to see if it's one specific speaker doesn't seem to make a difference either. Side note - do the rear door speakers literally have zero bass?? (turn the sub down in the EQ, raise the bass, and fade to rear speakers - there are no low frequencies)

I'm comparing this to my 2020 Model Y Performance. It seems to have cleaner, clearer bass. The CT seems to have more volume for sure but right now, the system in my Y sounds better. Is it possible I just have something else loose? At this point, it's the kind of thing where if I take it to service, they will listen for 5 seconds and say it sounds fine. If I had a damaged speaker or amp or something, it would be an easy replacement. I'm starting to second guess myself, but I feel like the fact that I've never had any concerns at all about the Model Y system should indicate it's not all in my head. What do you think? Is something else just loose somewhere? Am I being too picky?

Thanks!
You ever get this figured out? I have the exact same prob. Bangin Bass sometimes . Other times, even low volume, it goes muddy.

i had the same issue with mine. They planned to replace the rear carpet. Listen to the song “birds of a feather” by Billie Eilish, close to full volume with bass set around 4.5, mid slightly up, and trebel slightly low to to middle of the bar and let me know if you get that same muddy sound around 2:30-2:50

Same with the song “killing me softly” by fugees. I wonder if its certain bass lines that just really dont play well with this system.

Hey all. Just picked up mine. I came from a long range model Y. I am not audiophile but MY system was sooo good. Got in CT and notice the difference with the muddy bass immediately was so upset. Turns out the two subs on the CT cause this issue. I brought the bass to 0 and the Subwoofer to 4.5 and it sounds so much cleaner and still with a nice kick. I believe it has to do with the type of sub they use.

I've never been able to compare with another truck. Playing with the EQ and sub settings has helped but honestly, I've just sort of list this issue go as I'm hunting down a rattle in the center console that bugs me more.

I agree, I'm in the auto sound industry, and i immediately heard the subwoofer distortion on certain songs when i listen to them at low to medium volume. I was going to make a service appt, but after reading this, i guess this is within spec.

I will try the eq workaround for now. Hopefully a software issue can fix it.

I had mine in for service about this. Below is the repair note. Not much to go on but they adhered the frame or something. It does seem better. I don't feel warm and fuzzy about the fix though.

Repair Notes: Customer came in for concerns about a ratle heard coming from the rear right subwoofer. Verified the concern. Upon diagnosing, the rear RH subwoofer speaker was found to have separated from its frame. New part is not available. Adhered rear RH subwoofer speaker and tested for proper operation. If future concerns were to arise please schedule a follow up appointment for replacement.
