I close the tailgate step on the bumper then over the tailgate. I find it much easier then climbing in an open tailgate.

Agree with that but not an option for my 4 and 7 year old

The lack of an easy and safe way to gain access to the bed is a total fail on Tesla's part. I hate that we have to resort to step ladders to safely climb into our trucks.

Arguably some of the best engineers in the world, design the best pickup in the world and they don't even include something as simple an integral foothold in the bumper? Every other pickup major manufacturer has (or has had for years) a safe way to access the bed. I think the original plan of a tailgate ramp which was later scrapped may have led to this glaring oversight.

Maybe they were leaving room for the integrated loading ramp.?

My F-150 is a 4x4 model which is to say it's considerably taller than the RWD models. In other words, the Cybertruck is far easier to get in/out of than my F-150. And no, I've never owned a pickup truck that had a built-in step. That's probably why I can get in/out without issue. The body adapts to what you ask of it.

Call me old-fashioned, but needing a step to get in or out of a pickup is the beginning of the end (of your life). I hope I'm still getting in/out of my pickups without assistance when I'm 75.

I am 76 and I have a plastic fold- up step to assist me getting in and out of the bed. I can do it without extra help, but I’m concerned with potential injury. It’s smarter than pretending I’m young.

So did you order this thing to try out?
I looked at it more closely and I think the way it retracts under the receiver won’t fit with the aerocover underneath.

Instead I’m going to try to get an hitch extension and a step and store it in the bed so it’s quick and easy to mount and remove when needed. I will try to use ball plungers to keep it in place instead of a pin.

I tried this and it broke and I fell hard. I do not recommend it. If your weight is on one side it will not hold.
Thanks for letting me know. I use it rarely and it has held up. I hope you mend quickly, sorry it was a disaster for you.
