The unlatch issue I believe is a different issue that Tesla can solve.
I was hoping it was just a latch that needs to be readjusted. I had a service appointment a couple days ago that Tesla rescheduled another month out since they said the parts were not in yet. (Different issue, tonneau buttons intermittently don’t work when wet)

I was told there is going to be a redesign of those buttons because when they pool water, they stop working until they dry out.

DO NOT USE A DRILL PRESS. READ WHAT I SAID. slot the holes in one direction only. If you honestly believe TESLA will do it than wait until they say “ it is not adjustable “. These are AMERICAN vehicles and they passed Tesla inspection. Don’t you think by now someone would have said that Tesla can fix it. THEY WONT BECAUSE THE ONLY FIX IT FIR THEM TO WITHER REPLACE THE LATCHED WITH A SLOTED VERSION OR SLOT THEM. AND I KNOW THEY WONT SLOT THEM.

So put your big boy pants on - take 4 star bolts off , remove latches and slot the front edge with either a rat tail file or a carbide bit 1/4 “ or so - more if necessary to allow the latches to adjust in enough to make tailgate move in flush with the light bar.

I read what you said, but why wouldn't you use a drill press to slot something, so you can hold it steady in a vice and make sure your slotting is straight? Did you do it with a hand drill or something? Dude, take it easy! :-D

Dude,
I am unaware of a drill press that will slot something That being said the hole in the part is the same size as the bolt so just elongating the hole in the direction about 1/4 inch or so will do it. I used a carbide tool on a battery drill with the part in a vice so I wouldn’t get bit with a jamb up.
Good luck.

Why can't that carbide bit be mounted in a drill press and rest the part on the platform?

Sorry for confusion. My point was to not drill the hole bigger. You can use a rat tail file, a carbide bit or anything else that will slot the hole.

UPDATE:

Just wanted to give you guys an update. Yesterday I finally was able to get this looked at by the Tesla SC. I went there for my CyberTent, and had them look at this also. According to their notes, they replaced the striker which was able to close the gap some.

This is as far as they could flush it off:
Tesla Cybertruck Tailgate not closing all the way 1726585182498-ar

It is definitely better than it was and is "within spec."

Mine sits proud like the OP photo, and I just had it in for a service appointment last week and that item was noted as “within spec” so they did nothing. Guess I’ll do the slotting method.

Have Tonneau cover in the partially open position away from the tail gate.

Try adjusting the tailgate latches.

(mine worked without slotting FYI) (y)

Then perform manual or onscreen Tonneau cover calibration

A drill press that can move horizontally is called a mill and is made for cutting slots like this.
