Talk me into/out of buying a CT

Hello,

Very new to all of this. I have driven a Diesel F-250 for the last 25 years (not the same one). No longer need the big diesel. Honestly haven’t in a while, but I like having a big truck.

Friend of mine let me drive his Plaid last week. Was quite impressed with the technology, but I still want/need a truck. Went and did a test drive of a Cyber Truck this weekend, and really enjoyed the short drive.

So, I”m really torn on this. I’ve been reading a bunch of articles, but I’d really like some folks opinions pro’s and con’s about making what (I think) is a big change from a big diesel to an electric truck…

If you plan on towing I would eliminate the Cybertruck. Tesla's battery technology isn't quite ready for prime time.

Range is the EV’s Achilles heel. They’ll get there, but not today. If you need to max out the towing/payload regularly stick with the diesel for now. If it’s occasional/short distance stuff and you want a vehicle that you forget isn’t a hyper car, the CT is the greatest vehicle ever conceived.

Thanks for the responses. Should have mentioned that since we sold the Airstream I rarely tow, and if I do it’s a small trailer locally.

I’m in the same boat. I drive a big diesel truck. I don’t tow or need it! Range and towing will be your biggest gripe. Day-to-day driving you’ll love a Tesla, EV’s are great for day-to-day use. My wife drives a Model Y Performance and we think it’s amazing. I’d like to get one but don’t want to give up my truck (yet). A little bigger battery might would push me over the edge. I’ve not driven one, but I’m sure they drive great. It would be beast or bust for me.

Do you like talking with strangers? Do you travel a lot?

Sometimes I have to park in the far edge of a parking lot if I'm truly in a hurry and don't want to cut anyone short when they want to see the truck.

Not necessarily a con for me because I love talking about EVs and associated infrastructure. But some people don't understand just how much attention these trucks are still getting.

The choice to place this in the pro or con category is up to you ?‍

Cybertruck towing range I've heard is anywhere from around 100 miles to about 200 miles due to the aero drag. A small trailer would probably net you around 180-250 miles of range depending on aero and weight, but the 11000 lb load would drop that down to around 90-110 miles.

Honesty, it's been 25 years of the same truck...Dodge makes a darn good truck but the phrase "live a little" might apply here.

Try something different and really what is the worse that can happen?

For the pro's I would say the technology that impressed you so much is probably the biggest pro that I personally feel is the difference.

For con's....just the range if you enjoy going on day trips or extended road trips.....assuming you don't have a second vehicle.

Might be time for an new adventure in 2025!!!!

Cybertruck can tow Iike nothing on the market. Buy it and enjoy. You won’t miss that old broke down Ford. I’d say try the Lightning but that thing is subpar compared to the quality of the Cybertruck.

Owned my duramax from 2015 new till 6 months ago. Sold my toy hauler a few years back but I loved my truck and do construction. Put my deposit down a year ago on the CT didn’t think it would be a reality for a few years then ? got the invite. Went down and got it but wanted so bad to keep my duramax for work and did for a while however I just have to many other vehicles so I parted with it and truthfully never looked back. I Just picked up an old dodge ram on the cheap to use for some work stuff but sense I’ve gotten the CT I haven't driven any of my other vehicles , The comfort is hands down next level. I still look at the new duramax and no I will go back one day because I love that truck but sometimes you need to try new things. How often does a vehicle come along so new and so different? You can always go back.

Dude… I own a F350. I love my Ford. I kept it. But my CT is sooooo much more fun to drive. Yesterday I had a guy in the middle of nowhere with a RAM 2500 pull up and say “ That truck is sooo cool. How do you like it?”

There is a place for the diesel, which is why I kept mine. If you tow, etc, keep it.

But I drive the CT so much, I actually lost the battery on my F350 and had to charge it. FTR, my F350 is a 2023 with 8k miles on it ?

Keep in mind, I’m a tech bro. Watching the CT driving itself makes my head wander with code/algorithms/models on how they did this. It’s fun and mesmerizing just to think about.

Anyways, that’s my .02 from a diesel owner.
