Do you believe any rumors of the new gen light? I’ve waited this long…
I don’t. It’s illogical. This is supposed to be some couple of one offs with people‘s light bar flying off of their trucks willy-nilly. Well we have the preponderance of people who’ve had them installed right here I don’t know that there’s a single one of us who has had this experience. This was always supposed to be a limited edition ad on.

Why would they be redesigning it and why wouldn’t any of us been warned about the risk or have experienced it? This doesn’t pass my sniff test. And if they determined that it was a safety issue they’re going to have to replace all of them because certainly we will sue and win if they let us drive around with something that they knew was dangerous/defective.

not a single one of us that’s driving around with this thing glued to our cars has been told that there’s any risk. That should speak for itself.

The only reason I give the theory any Credence, is due to the fact that if you have any windshield issue, it’s going to be a big problem to get that bar off. the hard taping/glue on is the issue.

I have had a few Tesla, the yoke is the prime example here. They used crappy plastics and concepts and then redesigned it for future versions and gave for “free” to others who complained about the horn.

tesla is first principles engineering approach, just pump it out and let them beta test it.

I mean removing it is a matter of heat and a scraper. Still ignoring the fact that this is a limited run specialty item. Also, we need to keep the goal posts still. Either they’re fixing it because it’s a safety hazard or because they think that there’s a better way to do it. This is Schrodinger’s rumor at this point.

You must feel so lucky to be “selected” by the gods of Tesla. If a company regards accountability as an important trait, anybody at Tesla associated with the light bar fiasco would be fired. Meanwhile, you can’t even give a real human being any feedback about this issue

Wow! Even the language used is preposterous! How offensive!

Selected? FU! It was selected when I paid for it! You, mean I’m now scheduled? Are the light bars like Mjolnir?

That is really annoying I agree. They try to spin it into a special event when we all paid a year ago for it.

I’m glad you asked this question. Somebody else asked recently something similar about what people were doing to avoid getting arrested and hauled off to jail because they have one of these on their car and it’s not covered. I wanted to respond to it but by the time I had time I couldn’t find it so it’s out there somewhere I have two answers on this one is considerably less serious.

1. I’m a lawyer, I don’t care! Write the ticket I’ll deal with it later. YMMV with this level of privilege/arrogance.

I spent a lot of time, money and energy going to law school; if I can’t fix a ticket then what’s the damn point!?

2. Now, let’s be practical for those of you who aren’t “officers of the court.” You really have to think about why these laws were written and how they’re going to be enforced.

Not put to find a point on it but these laws were written because back in the day there were a bunch of yahoos with a whole bunch of giant lights strapped all over their vehicles shining them around willy-nilly causing people to have accidents. They’re obnoxious huge and obvious and if the police saw you driving around with these lights you would be targeted and probably ticketed!

Have you seen what this light bar looks like installed? First of all you’re not going to notice it from the back. You’re not going to notice it from the side unless you know exactly what you’re looking for. From the front it doesn’t really draw your attention you may see it and not process what you’re looking at even if you’re in law-enforcement. So when would you be targeted? If you were dumb enough to be driving around with the light on on public streets.

If not, part of some secondary violation or checkpoint you would have to literally encounter some kind of super cop!

They’d have to first see you coming head on and without the lights being on noticed them and recognize exactly what they are. Then they would have to have enough time on their hands and nothing else going on to need to turn around and follow you specifically to give you a ticket for this minor infraction, since unless the lights are on you’re not creating any of the problems for which the law is intended to address.

It would be the rare rookie that would have the skill and knowledge to put all of these things together and target you. Likewise, no seasoned officer who isn’t some kind of Savant is going to be coming for you for this.

So I’m not saying that you can’t possibly get a ticket for this and your experience may vary if you live in Mayberry and there’s really nothing else for the cops to do then maybe you should be concerned but outside of that I just wouldn’t worry and if you get a ticket or you’re pulled over you tell the officer that this is original manufacturers equipment and you assumed that it was in compliance with all of the laws that are applicable it’s not something you added to your vehicle and now that you’ve been given this information you’ll get some black tape and cover it up. Carry gaffer’s tape in your truck if you want to be able to abate something like this immediately.

Beyond that, be like Pumba and Bobby McFerrin.
LOL. That's actually my exact plan. I'll just carry around some tape. I was going to use electrical tape because I had "a friend" who blacked out a 1981 Mazda 626 using electrical tape on the chrome and window tint on the taillights... But, yeah, I'll probably just run it and not be an idiot on the road. I'm no lawyer but I DID stay at a Holiday Inn Express...

It may not be super easy but I'm pretty sure you'd just floss it off. Heck, a heated wire would probably work just fine.

Well, we have our first, allegedly, and conveniently, it happens to be a “content creator.”

1. I’m not into Elon’s antics. Not by a longshot.

2. I was one of the first to get this light bar and I’ve had zero problems.

3. Every OEM spoiler and every carbon fiber piece that I’ve put on every Tesla I’ve owned (that’s five) is taped or glued on [even tape is just a glue attached to a substrate].

4. I don’t think the glue is the issue. If the service center didn’t put it on properly or it wasn’t allowed to cure these sound like explanations.

5. Lots of things can be attributed to Elon’s activities and lack of focus. But this particular dog won’t hunt. Any engineering that went into this happened years ago and the installation wasn’t done by EM.

I’m all for criticism, but there needs to be causality.

Very excited to have gotten my lightbar installed just a few days ago. Here’s my experience. I tried to make an appointment on the app, it was cancelled and told to wait for an email when available. I instead, went to a service center in person and talked to the service manager who was able to order the bar and complete installation within a week. I had to connect the bar myself ( easy 2 minute job) if you’re used to working on cars and molding. If not, maybe 15 minute then. The following day I drove down to LA freeway speeds. No issues at all, no extra wind noise, no failures. Average speed 70-80 with occasional 90 to pass. Got a chance to turn it on at night. Photos don’t do it justice but it pretty awesome. Controlled from either plugs and accessories or lights tab. You can assist the output same as bed lights. You can choose between ditch, food, or both.

Do you have a gap between the windshield and the lightbar? I do have a 3.95 mm gap.

Thanks,

Mine flew off this morning two weeks after installation.
Had my light bar installed on 12/24/24 and on 12/28/24 while I was driving with FSD on 75 mph it flew off the roof of my CB with only the wire hanging on. The right pillar on the roof also got halfway broken off Made another service request and am supposed to have it this week done. My brother who also has a CB was told the have the light bar but many people have had the light bar fly off and some cars hit the windshield when apply brakes and cracks the windshield. Service agent told him they can install but Tesla is going to add brackets soon. So he decided to wait since he saw my CB.

Ok, now I'm thinking about pushing out my scheduled install of the lightbar in case Tesla needs to figure this out. This is not an insignificant piece of equipment to lose at speed. Hope you didn't have ancillary damage.

Hey, I love my Cybertruck, and the performance it delivers is outstanding. but it's all the BS involved with the company that pisses me off, a lot of things with the cybertruck it seems are not fully developed or ready for the consumer market it's like they go straight from concept to production in one step, just let us be the guinea pigs. Make us pay up front for things that have not even been tested. And instead of making the car cheaper since it will have problems that have not been fully resolved and end up costing the consumer time and money to deal with, they instead make us pay more, and up front. The audacity of the Tesla leadership is astonishing. I found the service at the service centers frightening. And the service from Tesla Insurance is subpar and lacking accountability or representation. it's just weak on communication and slow to respond, I mean, Slow email only, and you get 1 response for 30 days. They will answer your emails once every 30 days. we might as well go back to using the Pony Express or the telegraph. painfully slow.

Got my Lightbar installed today. Question to the Folks that had it installed - how long did you wait before car wash?

I couldn’t tell you that because I took delivery of my sub-200 VIN beast at the end of March ‘24 and still no light bar. Not happy.
