While pulling out of my driveway tonight for a road trip for the holiday weekend, my truck displayed and error saying "Vehicle may not restart. Service is required." The following error codes appeared;
  1. HVBATT_a011
  2. HVBATT_a122_IsolationDegradation
  3. RSAM_a134_LPSError
  4. VCREAR_a117_VCFRONT_MIA

The truck still drove normally, but I turned around and parked in my driveway. The truck then shut down most systems with an error saying it could not support all onboard electronics. (this is a safety feature so Teslas with current leakage don't electrocute people)

I called Tesla Roadside Assistance, and they essentially said: Whatever you do, don't drive it anywhere. They sent a tow truck and brought it to my local service center a few miles away (Grand Rapids, MI).

Service center staff immediately got us into a loaner Model Y (dual motor 2020 Long Range) and sent us on our way. They assured us they’d take care of it as fast as they can, but parts may take a little while to ship. Unfortunately, I'm scheduled to drive 2,000mi from Michigan to Montana next week on a camping trip. Extremely unfortunate timing.

Without diving in under the hood, they couldn’t say exactly what’s wrong or how long it could take.

After reading other stories of Isolation errors on other Teslas, I have some speculation on the problem on my truck. Isolation failures are most commonly found in the motors, HV connectors, inverter, and HV cables. It's possible my truck has a cracked connector or unseated water seal (any range of issues can cause this, including a bad factory assembly). Any water ingress will cause a jump in current from the connectors/wiring to other areas of the truck. In any case, it shouldn't have anything to do with the high voltage battery itself, but rather the wiring surrounding it.

Also, it's possible this is the first Cybertruck to ever have this issue. My Service Center will have a fun time!

So far I'm really impressed by the speed and attentiveness of the Roadside staff and the service techs. We likely won’t know more for a day or two.

Will update the thread when I know more from Tesla Service.

Update!

Tesla has identified my Cybertruck's issue as either the front drive unit or the front drive unit's inverter.

Usually, these parts have to be shipped in from Texas, special delivered on a pallet / crate. Sometimes, these shipments can take weeks.

Installation, according to the service manual, requires the complete removal of the front subframe, draining of the coolant system, disassembly of the front facia and frunk, front suspension, and more. It takes... a long time. (photo below of part of the disassembled Cybertruck & motor).

THE GOOD NEWS: Tesla Grand Rapids has both the drive unit AND inverter on hand, meaning no shipment is necessary.

The Service Center staff will be returning after the weekend to tackle the repair on Monday, with an expected return of my truck on Tuesday.

The rep assured me this is not only a very rare incident, but should never happen again on my truck.

That means:

WE ARE STILL GOING TO MONTANA! Leaving one week from tomorrow.

To the Tesla engineers and techs working on this project— you guys are legends. Absolute goats. You have saved my overland trip! Thank you all.

I don't see the photo of the disassembled Cybertruck.

My AWD Cybertruck began displaying a variety of error codes on day three of ownership, at around 350 miles. Took two weeks for a service appointment, and then another week at the service center. Took them a few days to diagnose. Ultimately, they replaced the rear drive unit “due to low isolation resistance.”

My truck has been perfect since. Coming up on 3,000 miles.

Good luck with your repair. Hope they get you turned around quickly!

I think to some degree this happened to me.

I got my new Cybertruck on 10/25 and it was fine for a week, then went to leave work on Friday 11/1 and truck was completely unresponsive. Called Tesla and had to be towed to with a flatbed after 465 miles.

As of 11/8 Tesla said it was a front drive unit inverter and they have all the parts to fix. The truck should be ready on 11/11 or 11/12.

My truck is number 40885.
