Maybe I am easily annoyed. It insists on wiping the dry glass at every startup, every input of a new FSD destination, and whenever it feels like it. I now shout to Grok "Windshield Wipers Off!", which generally works until I program a new destination. Sometimes it gives one final wiper operation when I ask it to stop, just to show me who is in charge. With wiper blades above $75 each, and streaks that look like scratches on the windshield, I just want it to stop. Is there any hope?

I have gotten used to turning the wiper off after every FSD engagement. It's pretty annoying to be honest.
I get zero phantom wipes after cleaning the glass and lenses.

there's a device, I'm trying to recall the name, that let's you enable FSD, and keep the wipers in the previous (usually off) setting.

AutoWipers use cameras and not the $4.00 part the rest of the industry uses.
Will they work some day? Maybe. Did Tesla jump the gun by 10 years and hubris won't them use the $4 sensor? 100%.

Welcome to the club.

this thingy; I don't use one, but I think it can do it (and other stuff).

Ohh sorry; I don't see CT in the selector thing... maybe one is coming?

I may need to clean mine. My truck was manufactured in May, so I don't expect it to be dirty up there yet. Its possible with the plastic offgassing and the fact that you found a fan in that housing might accelerate it.

I get the phantom wipes too. However, Let me ask you this, Gus; Every time I set my pipers to "Auto", they are WAY too aggressive for the situation. Did you observe this behavior also and did cleaning the glass/lenses improve this?

I've not had many opportunities to test the wipers in the rain (almost 300 rainless days here last year). For light rain, it behaves adequately. But I'd agree that the wiper escalates quickly and is slow to back off, sometimes continuing full-tilt even though the rain practically stopped.

Seems like a software issue more hardware. But then again, I'm a software engineer

The outgassing is worst when new. Try cleaning one of the A-pillar windows to get an idea of the magnitude of the issue.

Tesla cleaned the glass for free and it changed nothing for me. It was actually automatically added as an item for an unrelated service apt. It doesn't happen often but when we get some decent morning fog, it'll throw them into a fit too.

Well that’s no bueno. I had the exact same issue, and cleaning BOTH the windshield and camera lenses fixed it.

I may suggest one thing: take it back there and have them redo it and make sure they use the alcohol wipes, not just to clean the windshield glass, but also the camera lenses themselves. Due to the offgassing depending on how lazy the tech is, they will only clean the windshield glass and not the camera lenses. That’s the only thing I can think of. Nothing else would logically affect the phantom wipe issue.

I've had my truck since last Friday, and I can already see some off gassing haze. No dry wipes yet.

I'm gonna have to learn how to properly clean the off gassing haze off.

Cleaning the windshield with alcohol first before using any kind of glass cleaner is the way to go.

However, I would advise against opening the plastic cover that in cases, the front cameras behind the rearview mirror as the tabs are fixed with epoxy to the windshield and there’s been history of people breaking the tabs necessitating an entire windshield replacement
