I think that the attempt to impact the pickup market is a good one. It's not my grandmother's pickup and I think that many people want just that. Something different.
It fits and far exceeds the needs of the majority of the buyers in the pickup space.

It's got all the Tesla DNA in it. Things that most people have no idea what it is. Tesla is full of little things. I mean something as stupid as the light show, is one of the coolest things that people ever see. Got a 6-year-old that's squirming in the seat? Give them fart mode.

It's indeed a game changer.

How well do people like it. Listen to the review and see how often they are interrupted. Listen to the jealous people keep naysaying about it. A common defensive action when you don't have something. If they dont want it that much, why are they still here?

I think that the knocked it out of Fenway Park and the ball is on the way to land in the Pacific!

It's really interesting to here the other US manufacturers with the sky is falling.

It's also interesting to hear the pickup giant Ford, have to suck wind because they can't build a plant fast enough and put out as many vehicles per day as Tesla should be shortly.

Will it bypass the Model Y in sales?
Catching Y would take some time but the best selling vehicles by numbers in the US are trucks so maybe someday.

I think the real opportunity will be when they make an SUV from the CT platform to compete with the RS1. Most likely to replace the X as the Y gets the Juniper update later this year the X sales will suffer.

Finally a pickup truck that can be passed down through multiple generations.

If I lived in the rust belt I know what pickup I would be purchasing. A 1.8 mm thick stainless steel door skin AND a stainless inner door shell? Ya baby.

Corrosive municipal road salt, take your best shot?

I've been exploring the idea of getting something unique and different in 2019, specifically, a truck or SUV that combines serious off-road capabilities with supercar-like performance. My search included models like the Raptor, Jeep, Urus, Defender, and G-Wagen, all of which have a commanding road presence. However, they lacked certain features I was looking for, particularly those associated with Tesla, such as being an electric vehicle, having an advanced infotainment screen, and integrated app functionality.

Then came the Tesla Cybertruck, which not only met my criteria but exceeded expectations. It's like everything I wanted was dialed up to the maximum, making it the perfect choice for me. It is like Elon made this car specifically to my wishes.
It is crazy because i think so many feel Elon made this vehicle specifically for them and their wants, yet as we can see we all have different reasons for what is important to us or how we will use it. What a wide appeal it could have.

Lol, I been thinking I might need to make a provision in my will for which of my sons get the CT someday (long from now, God willing). I might have to buy a second down the road to keep the peace.

I think Jason Cammisa from Haggerty is the perfect example to speak to peoples reaction to the CT. Jason is a petrol head who makes his living from creating content around ICE vehicles.

His video on the CT was production heaven and a master piece for the CT release. You could see this guy who wants so deeply to dislike this threat to his beloved ICE vehicles melt away right in front of us as he drives the cr@p out of the crazy truck.

He couldn't help marvel at what the Tesla engineers had achieved creating Elon's apocalyptic SS dream..

Anyone that has not watched it here is a link
Yep, there are two groups of people.

Those that own an EV.

Those that are going to own an EV. (They just know it yet)

I'm taking mine with me.

Isn't that the definition of heaven?

Catching the Model Y would actually be pretty easy.

If they could make that many. (There's a lot of orders in queue)

That's going to be the issue for a few years, getting enough production into place.

For me, the cybertruck simply checks off many boxes of my wants/needs in a vehicle:
  • I enjoy wedge-shaped vehicles
  • Love the looks and practicality of the stainless steel skin
  • I enjoy driving BEVs, and driving pickups - now I can have both in one vehicle
  • Production has actually started and is moving along, which means that general-public deliveries are not far behind
  • This vehicle allows me to stay in the Tesla family
We are now at the start of seeing people actually own/drive/modify these vehicles. Looking forward to reading about the experiences while I wait for my turn. It will be an interesting and exciting journey!

I'll add a little to this. I just realized that "pickup counts" evidently include all the pickups in a model, so it seems that the F-150, F-250, and more are included in the numbers.

If you combine the Model 3 and Model Y (just two variants of each other) they move way up in the list. Worldwide selling more than the F-150 if my numbers were correct. (US settling for second place)

When I think of Pilot Pete I think of the catchphrase you have used all along, " I am not buying a truck, I am buying the Cyber"

So many different buyers will be coming to EV's and Tesla because of this audacious vehicle. To think you were considering a Porsche or any other incredible sportscar but Elon's creation, a truck no less has such strong appeal and intrigue it is captured your interest instead.

That is crazy when you think about what this means to all the different people who are going to want this vehicle for all the reason we have read about so far in this thread.
As was once said "And now for the rest of the story" or at least an update...

I feel like I need to go to a TA meeting now (Teslas Anon). "My name is PilotPete, and I'm addicted to Teslas..."

The Porsche is getting some miles on it, and it has a "millennial anti-theft device", or previously known as a manual transmission. My new contract has me driving a far amount farther, and through some nasty commute traffic. In the first two weeks, I've burned almost all my Hertz points and a couple dollars and I've been driving a M3LR back and forth. The difference in Los Angeles rush hour traffic in how I feel about the drive is shockingly different. I don't have TACC on the Porsche, or Autopilot. But using those judiciously in the M3 is fun. Again, as @Coolbreeze704 mentioned, I'm all about the Cyber. I've mentioned I was considering a M3 or MS as a holdover until my nowhere near first day CT reservation comes up. I'm thinking late 2025, but only if a large percentage of people get $100 refunds. More like somewhere between 2026 and 2028!

So I pulled the trigger last night. I ordered the new M3LR as my stopgap car. Black with the white interior. The new M3 has so many new toys features I just can't justify the price jump to the MS now. I'll consider an upgrade to the Performance/Ludicris whenever that one comes out. But for now, I've been assimilated. And I'm pretty darn happy about it.

Sorry to hear about your Tesla problem and good luck at you TA meetings.

Excited to hear bout your M3 though! The new M3 is gorgeous and such a great car for the price. Model S's orders will be in decline I think. March delivery or hopefully sooner?

It says "Feb-Mar". But they've already been texting me about getting everything in order and getting the account set up for the delivery.

I love the fact that we have options. Seeing more EV options is what I want more of. When the number of cars and trucks I have to choose from is increasing we are making progress towards EVs becoming the standard.
