Touchy feely people

Strangers who have never heard of it or call it "a spaceship" immediately get the invite to sit in. They never last long anyways, as there's nothing to see. I've even been told by a few that I should be working for Tesla because of my detailed explanations.

My "touchy feely" situations issues have actually come from a few co-workers. Some of them immediately rummage through everything that moves, run their hands over every inch of Alcantara, etc. It's like their version of kicking the tires at the dealership; debating whether or not they want to purchase the truck for themselves. In contrast, I'm the person that just sits, buckles up and touches nothing unless asked to by vehicle owner.

As far as the body goes, it would be interesting to see how touchy people are with wrapped trucks vs exposed stainless.

Nothing to stop them especially with your phone or backup card in the vehicle unless you enabled pin to drive.

I mostly get lookie-loos at the Supercharger, and charging disables the drive motors fortunately.

DeLorean owners have been grousing about this forever. I'm sure rare things get touched all the time, but nothing shows fingerprints like stainless lol.

Some DMC owners would put up signs, one even hung a velvet rope around the car at a show, still ended up with fingerprints. One guy finally found success with reverse-psychology by posting a "PLEASE TOUCH!" sign, and then watched as everyone feared it. ("I'm not gonna touch it, you touch it!")

Violating the "don't touch" admonition is just too tempting to resist.

I think what's going to frustrate me most are folks that CLEARLY know a lot more about my truck than I do.... It's already thing and I haven't taken delivery ?

As for touchy people, here's an easy solution:

We, as cyber truck owners, are in a tough spot. There is so much hype and excitement over the truck and you’re encountering people who are seeing it for the first time and some can’t control their excitement. You’re obviously free to react however you want just as they’re free to react however they want. If you don’t want them to touch it, tell them. I try to think of myself a bit of an ambassador so to speak. People have definitely touched my truck without asking some people have touched it after asking and I let them nobody has done anything other than touch it. If I’m not in a rush and somebody is friendly, I encourage them to take a picture of it. Take a selfie of it and I’ve even let a few people sit in the driver seat and I’ve taken a picture of them. My only suggestion is not to let it bother you because you’ll have no influence over it. You can’t will people into not wanting to touch it. All you can do is put off a negative and nasty vibe or a positive and friendly one.

It's definitely a double-edged sword. The finger prints wipe right off with a spray of isopropyl alcohol and a microfiber cloth.

But do NOT get this truck if you're an introvert.

I personally love the interaction and we've become somewhat famous in our small town of 20,000.

People text me all the time... "saw you over there, saw you here, my kids love it" etc etc we roll up at the ice cream stand and it's a mob scene. cars and coffee - madhouse

People do sidle up all the time, silently out of no where, from behind, and just start talking / touching.

Though my current favorite is other drivers coming at us on lower speed roads - the driver is more than likely mouth agape, with a finger pointing right at us.

I reviewed my recorded sentry alerts yesterday, and there are literally an endless stream of people coming up, looking in the windows, touching the truck, oogling every angle, its just crazy.

I’ve had my truck for over two months. It’s shiny and different, people can’t help themselves. It doesn’t bother me. Fingerprints wash off easily. Heck, the rain washes off most except the stick figure my granddaughter drew in the dirt on the door. Everywhere I drive or stop, people admire it. In time that will fade away. Until then, I’m going to enjoy meeting more new strangers who are curious and ask questions.

I think we should start a rumor that Tesla added an electrical shock feature to the stainless steel body that if anyone touches it who is not the owner they get a jolt.
