For those that don't know, the "flying roof" was the result of getting a replacement roof at a third-party shop which either didn't install it properly, or let the owner drive it before the adhesive was cured.

And oh was the timing so problematic around here. It happened right in the middle of a huge argument about replacing the glass roof with sheet metal. The video <provided evidence> that it would be easy to just pop out the glass and then put in the desired metal sheet. If you want to go crazy try going back to read about the metal replacement roof idea. People argue now about the term exoskeleton but nothing like that big row.

You haven't convinced me that Tesla would have sold more cars if Elon was less controversial. They wouldn't have had more cars to sell anyway. They are selling every car they can make for a profit. So, if you have friends who went with another brand, because they thought Elon Musk was too controversial, it is only their loss, not Tesla's loss. Tesla just sold that car to someone who didn't care if Elon spoke his mind.

Yes, it's sad that some people have to settle for an inferior EV because they think Elon said something unpopular, but I know a lot of people who think more highly of Elon for speaking out against the idiocy in the new woke movement and not just kowtowing to his liberal democratic base. Half of this country is conservative, and Elon has greatly expanded the market for Tesla products by not playing it safe.

If people buy inferior and over-priced EVs, that's on them, not on me and not on Elon.

Ok bud.

Hopefully the hub caps will be an option when you order your CT,
I will not waste my money on them.
Elon will throw them in.You'll be able to sell 'em on eBay or Gumtree.
Probably in the storage bin under the vault, safe and sound! People might leave the caps out on hard rubbish....if you see a set, could be worth stopping. ;)

I did recommend in this forum long ago that people take the caps off, wrap them up nice, and store them safely for use in holiday parades far in the future. They will be worth a little something someday for that classic collector that wants the complete set of parts.

Yes, I remember that incident well. The Tesla Model S had recently had it's glass roof replaced by a third-party glass shop in China.

Tesla Model S roof seen flying off in dashcam video, Tesla blames third-party shop | Electrek
We have contacted the owner of the car as soon as possible and are helping the owner solve the problem as soon as possible. After preliminary investigations, the vehicle had undergone roof glass replacement at a third-party authorized repair center.
That "oh goodness" moment, caught on camera for all to see, can only be the fault of the shop that had recently replaced the glass roof.

The Model Y was an unrelated incident, and was not caught on camera as an "oh goodness" moment. It was a previous story that Electrek tried to associate with the Model S in China to make it seem like a regular occurance. It shouldn't have even been news except it was made by a company called "Tesla". The third-party repair shop in China remained unnamed.

I agree, but a hubcap flying off is some serious news.

I am pretty sure there has not been a Toyota/Honda/VW hubcap fly off a car in years.
