My truck was charged to about 60%. I updated it to 2024.20.6 from the prior version and my truck’s charge went down to 36%. The update took less than 1 hour.

is this normal? Other updates have not depleted the battery this much.

any recommendations from more experienced users.

Maybe they just increased your battery range :)

Yes normal. Depending on release certain functions are ran, and tested. Thermal test, coolant pumps run, and many others. Does it happen each update. Nope. Some yes.

I guess I am experienced. I don't know well over 500k in Tesla miles if that counts. Hundreds of updates. Enjoy the truck.

That amount feels wild to me for an hour. Not saying it is impossible but that is something like 29 kWh used for an update? Sounds extreme.

Kind of doubt the numbers stated. If one left door ajar maybe. Either way. There is nothing of concern. Look in the service and see if there are any alerts.

Agree it makes no sense. If true, it means the truck was using 30 kW of power during the entire update period of (at most) one hour. Look at it this way: if a CT has 340 mile range at 60 mph and 123 kW-hr battery, it needs only 21.7 kW to go 60 mph (123 kW-hr in 340mi/60(mi/hr) hours => 21.7 kW). So, you are saying that sitting still, the truck needed 50% more power to do an update, than to travel at 60 mph. Obviously nonsensical.

Started installation of 2024.20.6 at 260miles of range.

Completed with 260miles of range.

And the Beast has been sleeping like a baby (12hours at last check)!

?????
I’m glad you did not experience what I did, the truck is fine, just found it odd that the battery charge changed this dramatically for me.
