Anyone have any experience with state registration requirements for weighted vehicles? NC requires a weighted tag for vehicles over 7000lbs GVWR, which includes the CT, but I just got my 1st registration renewal and it looks like Tesla set the licensed weight to 7000lbs, which as I understand it should be at least the GVWR of the vehicle (9200lbs). Technically, 7000 isn't enough for me as the driver, with the spare and other basic cargo items.

There are some threads on this here or at the TMC forum on this topic. Here in IL they are registered as Class C trucks based on weight.

When I asked Tesla about this they said they wanted to be on the safe side of registering the CT based on the state laws.

Yeah, that's curb weight not GVW.
Classification is worse though. Based on my quick scanning of NC rules, the plate needs to be max truck plus (non travel trailer) trailer (but only if you actually haul that much stuff).
So it could up to 9k + 11k = 20k which is like $555 a year. Then EV fee on top.
If you aren't going to tow, then you only need the 9k plate, at most.

How about those state EV fees!! Wait until the federal government starts instituting their EV fees! What then is the incentive for buying an EV/CT?

I used to spend $600/month in gas on my old BMW X6M, when I swapped it for the Model X P100D, it dropped to $60/month in electricity. I don't mind paying my fair share for road maintenance, the NC one is a little high buy not ridiculously so. The proposed federal tax though it much higher than it should be.

I recall mine was tricky here in Wisconsin too. Basically yhe lady at the DMV said ...you're at a weight with the vehicle where you are smack dab between the two weight classes. So if I have the usual passengers plus 800 lbs in the bed, I would be over. When hauling things it's rarely long distances nor for more that a day at a time, so I went with the lower class, which also allowed me to get personalized plates.
