I always wondered what "WEIGHTED" mean? Does that mean it is heavy enough that it must stop at DOT truck scales?

In NC if a vehicle weights 7,000 pounds or more the state requires you to get a weighted tag. The CT weighs less than 7k pounds but they round the GVW up to the next thousand pounds. So all CT in NC will have that type of tag.

A vehicle that weighs 10k or more has to enter the DOT scales. So that doesn’t apply to the CT.

what if a 6600 lb vehicle is toing a 3200 lbs trailer? That's 9800 but is it only commercial vehicles?

My understanding is under 10k pounds doesn’t have to get weighed. I don’t tow much so haven’t really looked into all their rules.

Nothing very fancy, but this was my very first plate when I got my first car in the US. That was 30 years ago, moved that plate from car to car to now the CT.
I leave the interpretation to the sleuths on this forum.
