I've been wondering what happens with any tree/bug/sand debris that may (will) be on the cover when it is opened. Does it just become trapped in the truck somewhere? Can it be cleaned out periodically? Does the manual discuss this?

It will fall into the casting, compost and become a beautiful little ecosystem.

I actually thought the same.

Mine is surely full of leaves and pine needles already.

Saw this after a bit of off roading…realized a little debris from the tonneau cover was the least of my worries. It’s not super practical taking out the bed bay to clean, but definitely a fair amount of mud can collect just from a few puddles. The fwd floor panel is actually very easy to remove. I’ll take a closer look at the tonneau this weekend to see exactly where the tonneau debris falls, but it does seem to be on top of the battery penthouse.

I get a lot of pine needles and such on the tonneau, so I think it does fall on the battery, but looks like it some may blow through unlike the mud on the motor. Also saw a some hay bits filling a few of the crevices. Seems there’s not a ton of air blowing through here to clean it out so debris falling from the tonneau or between the edges of the bed just hang out below. It builds up a bit, but nothing that seems concerning in-terms of getting in moving parts.

Long way of saying, I don’t think debris falling from the tonneau is a big concern - it shouldn’t clog/build up in the mechanism because the way the tonneau rolls up upside-down (dumping debris before rolling up).

I still pick off pine needles from time to time before opening the tonneau. ?

Sounds like having a small cordless jobsite blower would be wise to keep in the truck.

There is actually a brush along the top of the cover mechanism that pushes debris off and into the bed. It should catch most things of any size, but I would expect finer particles (dust) to slip through

Thank you for the pictures. Having grown up in the country your pictures made me worry about mice. That looks like a mighty comfortable place to store some seeds and have 300 babies. Hopefully they do not eat into the orange cables.
