If it helps anyone for USB C power at the dash. I found it fairly easy to drop a wire behind the display trough the inside of the dash, under the pax carpet/floor and up into the center console. This allowed me to have my dash phone mounts plugged into a quality USB C charger in the center console.

Do you have any pics? I have not found a way in and out of the center console yet from the bottom. Also, after you get past the screen and white or gray dash piece, how do you get under the diagonal black piece to the floor?

How many watts or amps does your charger draw?

max is 20W but only when my wife drives as she has an iPhone 16 Pro. I have iPhone 15 Pro Max and mine draws about 12W at most.

Thank you. If you leave your phone in your car and it turns off (sleep mode), does the phone still charge?

Yes, it does. OBD is active at all times. But if I left my phone in the car the car won’t auto lock either. Once the phone is fully charged it will stop charging and won’t be drawing power anymore.

The front dash panel pops off pretty easy and snaps right back in. I popped mine out by the passenger door and loosened it to the display. Pop out the upper carpet behind the glove box. Then just lower and wiggle your USB cable through dash until it pops out the bottom. I don’t remember it being a straight shot down but it did find its way through after being raised, lowered and wiggled a few times.
Next pop the passenger side rail off the floor console and tuck wire under the carpet. Front facing panel on the center console pops off easy and then you can push your wire into the center console right next to the AC outlet. Literally no tools required on this project just take your time and maybe watch a youtube video removing a specific part if your unsure or afraid of the snaps.

Pop the front panel off the center console (1 piece from floor to front of wireless charger) With that panel out of the way you will see a spot already exists right next to the AC plug where you can feed a wire though into the inside of the center console. The inside liner for the center console will move out of the way as you push a wire through or you could poke a small hole in the liner.

Makes sense. That’s the main appeal to the OBD port for me.

thank you. That’s helpful. So the hole into the console is on the front side. Good to know.

So context.

I have this electrochromic-shade/plaid light thing in my car.
Yes, my interior design motif is “trashy limo” but I like it?
My biggest complaint about this thing is that it resets every time the car turns on and off. Both the opacity state and the color of the plaid light.
I expected a product like this to retain some kind of memory but it’s like a new device every time you turn the car off.
So my thought was, if I wired it to an obd adapter it wouldn’t do that any more. If the lights off it should also draw nothing.
With my multimeter, it draws about 8w briefly to change from opaque to clear and then nothing to maintain that. It draws about 6w continuous when the plaid light is on. So maybe very briefly it could get up to about 14w-15w draw.
I ordered this from Amazon.

Was going to just power it off that but some of the above comments have given me pause.
thoughts?
