That’s true but not a bunk type setup. Two adults in the tent and a dog bed or vault mattress in the vault directly beneath you. The tailgate is open anyway. All you need is a tailgate size mesh to keep them in if that is concern. I hang one there using strong magnets on the outside of the rear “fins” (think Cadillac) sometimes. That same net doubles for cargo securement.
Put some chew toys and rawhides in there and they will be super happy. They can smell you and hear you right above them.
My Ecoflow wave 2 AC sits in there when using the cybertent plugged into the vault and I run the pipe up into the tent. That makes the top “bunk” extra comfy.
It’s a very nice setup.
Keeps scratchy paws out of the tent and everyone is happy.
Incidentally this also allows your dogs to see and be seen outside which allows them to be guard dogs if that’s who they are.
Why have you given this an oddly immense amount of thought you might ask? Because my wife had the same concern. We had two very old dogs until very recently and we never left them.
