Worry not, my guy. I had serious trepidation when I bought my M3 sight unseen and I love that car.

I think you're gonna love your 1st Tesla!!
Oh for sure. I’ve watched just about every review and I know I’m going to love it. My frustration just comes from probably waiting this long and being so close, yet so far…

I definitely agree that interior cabin space is a must-try-to-know. The way companies measure, one can miss important info if viewing only the brute measurements of “leg room” etc.

So, if details of cabin interior space and packaging are high on one’s list of qualifications, it makes it very challenging to be an early adopter that must take before experiencing.

There are plenty of people for whom this isn’t an issue, who will be happy to be an early adopter. For example, anyone coming from a sedan/SUV (the CT will be even on paper guaranteed to be larger or no smaller), coming from mid-sized trucks (same), or even those coming from 1/2 ton trucks for whom interior dimensions isn’t a critical issue net-net. (Then there are the YOLO fans who would give up anything to be first-ish.)

All that said, I’m among the folks for whom interior space is critical, coming from a Lightning, and I’ve been in the CT. So while I continue to stress that for big guys or folks otherwise with a high importance on interior volumes, here’s some info:

With one exception, the front seat driving room will be materially identical to an F150. On paper it’s a tiny bit smaller, but that difference largely melts to background given that (1) rarely do even big guys sit in the rearmost driving position, and (2) the interior design creates a sense of space not seen in eg the F150.

The one exception to front row/driver’s space is obviously the center console. The Ct has a “two cupholder wide” center console, more like a modern Tacoma, compared to an eg F150’s “three cupholder wide” center console. As a result, two people in the front seat will have a bit less room for their center-side arm/elbow rest. Shoulders are that much closer, but certainly not touching.

So, in the front seat the interior volume is largely a wash as worst with the F150 sort of front row volume, subject to the center console point (which I think is minor).

It’s the rear seat interior volumes may depart most, and so if important to a buyer is most critical to the try-before-you-buy. The CT has notably less rear seat legroom than an F150, but still much larger than most sedans and any midsized truck. The rear seat width is notably less than an F150 but again as much or more than most sedans or more than any midsized truck. And while the CT’s rear headroom is listed on paper as being only 1” shorter than an F150 or a Model X, I have no idea how Tesla came up with that measurement - I’ll just say that at 6’2” (maybe long if torso) and slouching, my head was only ~1” from the top glass, and straightening to good posture touched the glass.

And this rear headroom has another distinction - even if the CT roof was merely 1” closer than in my F150, the CT is hardened bullet-resistant glass where the F150 is a rather forgiving and padded headliner.

And lastly in the rear seat volumes and packaging, unlike the particularly open-feeling front seats, the rear seat area - despite all the minimalism - is conversely more confined feeling than an F150. The side windows are narrow compared to an F150 and start high on the shoulder; the rear glass is narrow and whether the tonneau is openedor closed feels more like a wall than glass (even when the tonneau is open, the sails do quite a bit of confining/blocking of the view/light, and of course when closed it may as well be a wall behind you). So in the respect, the slightly smaller rear seat dimensions can be adouble whammy of being both dimensionally smaller and in terms of volume perception more confined.

So all-in-all, if rear seat volume and rear seat packaging is a critical feature for a buyer (like it is for me), I would say this is the most try-before-you-buy area to consider.
Thanks for the detail response, i can always count on you to come through with the facts. Thank you.
i don’t care about the back seats as its only my wife and I, in the vehicle 99 percent of the time. I love the CT and can’t wait to get delivery of it.

yeah, if this were my use case i wouldn't think much about it. especially if i were coming out of a sedan/SUV/midsized truck. the CT will be an interior upgrade in space

i just have 3 kids in carseats, and will have to do some marital gymnastics to explain why it's a good thing that I'll be unable to drive the entire family ( :ROFLMAO: )

I assume that anyone who bought one of the first EV trucks wasn't able to test drive it. How many Hummers were on the dealer lot? Was Rivian doing a roadshow and letting everyone drive the R1T? Most dealers weren't letting people test drive the one Lightning they had on site.

It's unfortunate, but it's also common for new releases. If a buyer wants a traditional purchase scenario, then they can't get the newest release.
I don't know, but I think that I'm accurate, all the first Hummers were bought sight unseen.

And AFAIK it still may be really close to that today, because I don't think that there are many/any Hummer EVs on dealer lots. Okay, I'll take that statement back, I just went and looked. I'm in Atlanta, the closest one to me is 468 miles away. There are 14 within 2,000 miles of me.

Ford Lightning? There's more than 100 within 50 miles of me, I may have to take a field trip.

2 rear and 1 convertible were confirmed fitting.

Although not entirely actually installed.

A very rushed vid. But looks usable still.

Greenville, SC area so just a couple hours away. Part of me wants to see it in person and part of me wants to wait and get the initial excitement when I get mine or see one in the wild.
We were in Orlando and saw that there was one in Tampa, so we left Orlando at 9 and decided to go see it on our way back to Atlanta. So we drive the 90 miles to Tampa from Orlando.

What? No Way! It wasn't in the store!@!@!@!@!

Oh yeah, they took it to the new store in Orlando for the grand opening. Damn!
We head back to Orlando.

Got back before lunch stayed at the store till about 2.

What else were you going to do tomorrow?

The Lightning is an amazing truck. I am 95% sure I'll trade it in for my CT, but I will miss it. I'll say that the CT has more that I want than the Lightning, but the value proposition is significantly worse. I live in a snowy place, not having an AWD truck is a hard sell. If you're spending $60k, it's a no brainer to go with the Lightning. AWD, faster 0-60, amazing frunk, great as a work truck.

Now if you have $100k, things get a little more interesting for CT. Air suspension, at this trim CT faster than Lightning, better tech.

yeah, I’ve mentioned before that there’s fitting then there’s fitting.

afterall, a Toyota carols can also “fit” three car seats

in my F150, not only do they “fit” but:

• there is handroom to install/uninstall without crazy contortion
• even rear-facing, I compromise no front seat legroom adjustability
• there remains enough rear cabin space that I can comfortably reach in, around, back, to eg tighten buckles, unlatch buckles, etc.
• there remains plenty of floorboard room, and room between car seat and front seats, that kids can get in the truck as usual
• all while using full-sized, highest rated, car seats with all safety bells and whistles (eg anti-rebound bars, etc)

no doubt many contend with 3-across in all manner of ways. And if forced to I could as well. But it’ll be a “con”

One gets spoiled with the room and functionality of a full sized truck, which in my opinion are second only to minivans

To be clear. I don’t need to test drive it, I’m just thinking that it would be reasonable to be able to check out the inside of the truck. It’s pretty silly that they won’t let you sit inside of it. It’s a freaking truck. Who gives a F%*^ about finger prints. People that are buying this truck don’t care about that. They’re guarding it like it’s going to break if someone gets too close to it. It’s silly.
Let's see. I suspect that 30% of the people that are looking at it are going to get one. (There's a huge excitement about it)
So, 3,000,000 reservations times about 3 times about 20 touches per person divided by maybe 50 trucks now on the floor is how many fingerprints is that? And how many of those have chocolate or ice cream or gum or poop on them?

Lines are long, just doing walk-bys. That will get a lot longer with 5-minute sit down and plays.

I doubt range will be an issue. Are you seeing any range issues with the Lightning? There's 2 Superchargers in town, a lot more across the water and they get as thick as sardines headed south.

You are indeed in cold weather territory and want be seeing anything like rated range for a few months. Hopefully you have an EVSE already installed, may have to switch out the box, but that's pretty easy.
You may even get lucky and where you work have option for engine block heater outlets.. They are so excellent for EVs.

One of the nice things is that Ford designed the Lightning to look like the classic F-150. I'm sure that you have had a few people pull you over and talk about it.

That definitely won't be the case with the Cybertruck. I got (and periodically still do) got a lot when I got my Model 3. But that truck yells "stop and let me see it!!!"

But one thing that is often left out is the Tesla Traction Control.

There's a video from 5 years ago that I'd love to find. A guy takes his Model 3, lines it up in a clear path and floors it. The car just slowly starts out.

Here's one that may give a little insight. Notice that it is a RWD and each time he starts, he says that he FLOORS the vehicle. And near the end, he slams on the brakes going downhill.
Tesla Model 3 RWD Crazy Hill Test in Fresh Snow and Ice (youtube.com)

Tesla Traction Control is pretty awesome.

They probably don't want people to sit in it and fart in the seats,
It's always surprising to me the number of restaurants that I go into that have seats that are slashed up.

That's how caring the average American public is, they have no problems slashing your seats with something in their pockets.

"Upholstery too fragile for everyday use" then hits social media even though it was a guy with a 6-inch knife that had sprung open.

So I take it you're not getting it then?
Pretty much. I haven't cancelled officially, but I don't expect Tesla can turn around this train of continual disappointment. Probably cybertruck 2.0 for me

And now you may have two simple variables. You want to wait longer or do you want to be closer to the car. i.e. order now or wait to sit in one.
