I have a few days left to decide if I want to buy the W&T Protection plan.
Has anybody bought this and found it's worth while?

Since my Cybertruck is financed, and I live in Massachusetts, I have "comprehensive" insurance on the truck, which includes Windshield replacement for a $100 deductable, so I only have the tire insurance for $20/month

AI Overview
Yes, comprehensive insurance in Massachusetts covers windshield replacement and repairs, as this is considered damage not caused by a collision (e.g., flying rocks, vandalism, or falling objects). While some insurers may offer a $0 deductible, Massachusetts law allows companies to charge a glass-specific deductible, which is often around $100.
Key Details on Massachusetts Glass Coverage:
  • Requirement: You must have purchased comprehensive coverage before the damage occurs.
  • Deductibles: While full, zero-deductible glass coverage was once standard, insurance companies can now apply a deductible (typically $100) for glass repairs or replacements to keep premiums lower.
  • Repairs vs. Replacements: If the windshield can be repaired rather than replaced, some insurers may waive the deductible entirely.
  • Impact on Policy: Because comprehensive claims are generally not considered "at-fault" accidents, they usually do not cause your insurance premiums to rise.
It is highly recommended to check with your specific insurer to determine if you have a $0 or $100 deductible for glass claims. "

We signed up for the cybertruck windshield insurance but not sure if it is worth it. Have replaced model y windshields many times from rock strikes and have $500 deductible through our regular insurance, not sure how often the cybertruck windshield will get rock strikes and need replaced but Tesla windshield insurance is more expensive for the cybertruck than it is for the model y.

Similar to the $99 monthly FSD subscription It's another revenue stream for Tesla. The money taken in far outweighs the claims that get paid out.

Do they do windshield only?
I get my tire insurance from America’s Tires and they’ve always been so awesome. Never trying to find a reason not to handle your tire problems and either fix or replace. A one time insurance fee per tire. Hard to beat.

Yes. They are two separate offers with no price break for combining.

Psa-car insurance companies for awhile have lumped windshields into comprehensive coverage so they can count it as a claim to raise your rates.

Windshields replacement is $2000-$2500?
$2000/$37=54.05 months to cover cost of one windshield
$2500/$37=67.56 months to cover cost of one windshield

You get one free replacement a year then $100 a replacement after that. Even if you replace it every month its still only $1100+($37×12)=$1544 a year

All of these programs are essentially for suckers. It is the house betting against you and playing on fear. It's the same as appliance insurance and supplemental home warranties, or the latest scam - insurance on your privately owned sewer pipe or electric line to the street. Cell phone screen protection falls into this category too.

If you have anxiety, by all means if it helps abate the issue. But that's what it is, psychology, and the man manipulating consumers. They have escape hatches galore, restricted use parameters, difficult communication when needed. Life is too short for such complexity, at least for me.

My motorcycle dealer insisted, and would not give up, on hard-selling the BMW wheel and tire protection program. Even when I told him the bike was immediately destined for a boat back to Germany, to be ridden across Russia and China, then to Africa, and starting tomorrow, SE Asia, he insisted there would be coverage and that I desperately neede it 0 despite the fact that we had already ridden around teh world three times and at no time would such coverage have provided a penny's benefit. I showed him the fine print that said invalid outside the U.S., and even then he kept at it. Why? Because these are the highest profit items in the dealership and OEM manufacturer arsenal - its how they make back whatever discount they may have provided to induce the sale.

My recommendation is don't be a sap. When something actually happens, pay. It is amazing how actuarially rare are windshield cracks, stone chips, and tire incidents. Yes, we've all had them, hence the fear element. But how many per 100k miles? I've had one flat tire in the last 1.2 million miles, which includes the length of the Americas twice (Alaska to Argentina), every country in the EU, Russia twice, zigzagging China, NZ, Iceland, Alaska, etc. About 30% of that is off road, and I've NEVER had a motorcycle flat except in a frontal accident that otherwise totalled the bike anyway. Tires are just really good these days, and have been for over 20 years.

It is illegal in most states to rate you for a broken windshield - it is the very definition of no fault damage.

My concern is the ongoing, almost annual windshield damage to my previous F-150s. Like an annual celebration, I would get a hit on the windshield that would spread out past the allowable boundaries. I think each one was about $500. My auto insurance covered part of it but still, a chunk of change.
Sooo, I guess I'll be one of the "Saps" who buys it based on previous experience.

I am one of the unlucky saps who has had to replace 7 windshields in 4 years. When I went to change insurance they all showed up as claims because they are comprehensive claims making insurance with other carriers more expensive. Prime example of ymmv, some of us are rock magnets and some are not. To me this is great insurance and if I don't need a windshield in 6 years it will definitely be solely because I wouldn't of had to pay for it outright. If I didn't have it who knows how magnetic I would be.

The tire insurance does not seem like a value ad imho. To many rules and exceptions.

Makes sense if you have a special case. On average, purchasers of these policies are betting against the house. Pure statistics. You must drive in areas with extraordinary levels of trucks and rocks, or extreme temps - if everyone had your experience, the price would obviously be multiples. If I lived, for example, in Jackson, Wyoming, where almost every pickup gets a broken windshield every winter due to expansion/contraction, I might do the same. But on average, these policies don't pay off, or they would not exist.

I'm the same way with insurance deductibles - $5k on vehicles and boats, $10k on homes, $100k on my shopping centers, because on each, I would never make a claim below those levels.
