Got my windshield tinted, 70% xpel xr plus. It’s been 10-11 days and it’s blurry/ ghosting (not my pic, but example pic attached), it’s really bad at night.

The front windows are 30% and back are 5% and don’t have this issue.

The shop has agreed to redo the install with 3m crystalline. I have never had my windshields’ tinted (thx Cali laws) what should I expect for final results?

I have 3M Crystalline 20% on all glass on my Model 3 and no issues whatsoever. I’m not sure what would be causing that as I’ve heard Xpel makes a good product as well.

A film issue could cause it, happens rarely but shops do get bad batches.
Can you take a picture and share it, ideally with your current bad setup and then again with the 3m crystalline for those of us who are considering it would be a great comparison.

I hope your tiny company is good. Ghosting usually is the result of minor stretching of the paper during application or over heating. I’m no tint guy but I had that problem on my X windshield. Good thing is that it’s obvious and the company you used is obviously reputable and going to fix it. I also have expel on both my X and S and that is one of the best papers.

They worked on 4 of my cars and 30+ family/friends vehicles in the past 6 years. Had only minor issues but all were fixed as soon as they were found.

Idk if this was a film, CT or improper install issue, But thx for explanation makes a lot more sense now.

I've the same issue with my Model 3 for XR plus at 55% on windshield. I'll have to get it fixed as well. No issues on the sides or on my Model Y with same XR plus (70% on windshield).

Any updates after getting the windshield tint redone? I’m having the same issue but with a different brand tint (Kavaca Ultimate IR 70%). My installer is going to remove and talk with Kavaca rep to determine if this roll of tint is the issue.

Yea OCD in Fremont redid mine with 3m crystalline and no issues. It’s only been 3-4 days but already 10 times better. Also tried it in rain + night which was close to unusable before but now it’s as if there is no tint.

Glad to hear! Agree that at night it is unusable, short video of what I’m experiencing.

Ahh man, mine was exactly like that, add rain into the mix and it was borderline dangerous to drive.

None of those issues now. I was talking to Joe (owner of OCD) and he was saying that the CT is easily the hardest windshield on any vehicle. A lot of shops are installing it against the glue lines, over heating it and messing up the adhesive underneath causing all these issues.

I paid 1.6k for mine, really high price but for me the results made sense.

If you don’t mind me asking, what was the reason you switched to 3M crystalline instead of having them redo Xpel xr plus? Did OCD recommend the switch? My installer talked about switching to the Xpel xr plus, so just curious before making that decision.

The original shop only had Xpel (they did 15-20 cars for myself, family and friends and no such issues).

They were going to retry it but were not confident about it so they were upfront about it and gave a refund.

OCD does carry other film but 3M is what they have used the most on CT so just went with that.

I also had a similar problem. I had 50% put on my front windows and 20% on the side windows. View out the side windows looks great but I saw a blurry astigmatism-like view through the front windshield at night. It was terrible and I had the tint removed. The tint manufacturer, Scorpion Window Film, is blaming the cybertruck window and suggested I should get it replaced! :D

My installer is going to try a different brand but I find the front window with no tint isn't that bad...

not my picture but illustrates what I was seeing around any bright lights at night...

I had my Cybertruck windshield tinted with Xpel XR Plus 55. I think I'm happy, but at night I do get ghosting where lights and signs have a ghost above and below the actual light source. I'm only 2 days in and it's been cold/cool so it definitely isn't dried yet.

Do you think it will get better once if fully dries?
