So when I first got the truck I noticed an occasional electronic reposition of the wiper while driving but this seems to have resolved with one of the updates . More recently though the wiper has started “wiggling” back and forth continuously at highway speed.
Anyone else have this and/or been able to find a solution?
submitted a service request but it would be nice to know what I should be asking them to do.
Video isn’t great but tried to capture it while driving.

I had the same issue and put into service. This is what the service tech said about the wiper moving at high speeds.

Normal characterstic of vehicle. This is intended behavior of the vehicle and is done for improved aerodynamics. This occurs at speed and helps with improving range of truck. No repairs needed, everything functioning as expected.

Ok. Continuous movement? That helps aerodynamics?
Also something that developed and wasn’t previously there. Did it happen with a
software update?
Thanks for sharing that

I can’t recall when it started moving more frequently at high speeds. It definitely could have been after a software update.

The blade is supposed to reposition for aero, and then sit. The only time I’ve had it “wiggle” was in a strong crosswind at high speed.

Have you received the wiper recall repair? Erratic behavior is one of the symptoms of a faulty motor.

No. I have not received a recall notice but I put in a ticket for this issue so I’m guessing they are going to check my VIN for that?

I've noticed mine doing it in the past. Not sure if it still does. Maybe it doesn't get into it's aero position which causes it to wiggle in the wind at high speeds?

Mine does this occasionally, but not enough to warrant me opening a service request with Tesla. Definitely not supposed to just wiggle like that, no matter what a service tech tries to tell you.

If I have a chief complaint about Tesla's, it's the insane amount of times the computer has decided to DRY WIPE MY F****** WINDSHIELD WHILE IT'S PERFECTLY SPOTLESS.

My M3 does it the same as my CT. ?

Mine does this in high winds or above 70mph. My guess is that as the wiper rubber gets older it gets a little looser. I think this normal, at least that is what I think after 10k miles.

I've noticed mine doing it in the past. Not sure if it still does. Maybe it doesn't get into it's aero position which causes it to wiggle in the wind at high speeds?

I’ve noticed the wiper moves with strong crosswinds - most likely the wiper is attempting to stay in a preset position.

The wiper moves toward the center of the windshield slightly at 30 mph to improve airflow over the top - so any crosswinds or turbulent airflow is moving the wiper - it’s attempting to move back to its preset parked position

Just confirming. Yes, at 30mph, the wiper shifts about 3 degrees for aero efficiency.

Now, related to wiper motor replacement, make sure to check the wiper function and fluid squirting function before you leave the service center. My service center messed up the initial motor replacement resulting in the motor failing during the recent nor’easter storm in the Boston area last week. Result was “stripped motor”. Then, when they replaced that motor, they didn’t set the ‘home’ position of the wiper correctly (which I caught with the service advisor). Then the tech set it correctly (took another 10-15 mins).

You really don’t want to go back multiple times for them to get the motor install and config right.

So I took mine in today. I wonder if it was a “home position” problem along?

In my experience, you'd know it's an improperly set Home position if you see the wiper blade:
  • Not rest back in the original postion after several wipes
  • When it goes back to the resting position or during multiple sequential wipes, it may slap the cant rail (this happened to mine)
  • When squirting fluid, it may squirt fluid for 1-3 secs in the resting position before it actually starts to wipe.
You'll know if the wiper motor was not installed or calibrated correctly:
  • If the 'aero position' is beyond the black tinted part of the windshield
  • When it's horizontal / at the bottom of the wipe, the wiper isn't horizontal and the tip is much lower (pointing down)
  • When it's vertical, it'll be 'resting' too close to the cant rail or too far away.
  • When squirting fluid, it'll squirt fluid only on the down-wipe not the up-wipe.
  • The blade will be jerky when it reaches the start or end position.

Note, when my wiper motor failed last Thursday, it took 3 months for it to fail after the initial wiper motor replacement wasn't calibrated correctly the first time.

If you read the service manual for how to replace the wiper motor, you'll see what the tech should be doing for setting the Home position.

Hope this helps!!
