1.8mm in the thickest panel sections and thinner in other sections. Which I think is good in that it saves weight and cost (as demonstrated by the parts list) and still offers the various properties for ingress protection and crash worthiness. I think those front quarter panels and frunk hood assemblies are probably the thinner sections so that they are more deformable, with the side doors being the thickest for least ingress.

Looks like it's a new Peterson exhibit though. Maybe in the vault, or maybe they moved out the crystal/aircrete cars in the room nextdoor to the OP?

(Sigh) yeah, another way we've been baitswitched by Tesla. Offer 'em 3mm, then make it 1.8mm, and jack up the price 60%. They're gonna eat it up, that's what I love about Americans.
I honestly don't understand this. It seems like people are looking for a reason to complain. If the initial design had 3mm SS, and could stop a 9mm at 15', and survive a sledge hammer, and bear in certain parts some of the stress of the vehicle, and improve vehicle rigidity, and they were able to meet ALL of those goals with 1.8mm SS... So what?!?! You needed 3mm for bragging rights? And the price is higher, as are the features. I don't hear anyone complaining "That friggin' Tesla! They went and added SbW and 4WS! That wasn't part of the original presentation! What are they doing?!?!"

And then there is the price. When the M3 was announced, it was supposed to be $35k. Well, it is. Took a while to get here, but now it is. Even with inflation and everything else, it is there now. But it wasn't there in year 1. So the CT isn't $50k today. It's not even year 1 yet. The price WILL come down. Not tomorrow, but it will. They have always started higher than desired and come down as they get better at putting part A onto part B.

This is a BS take. Yeah the price hike sucks, but if they can get the strength and stiffness they need from 1.8mm steel, why add additional weight for no reason? It can already take a hit from a sledgehammer without denting and stop a 9mm round... That not strong enough now?

The fact of the matter is Elon made a point how legacy auto will produce a prototype, and by the time it's released, it's so different it's lame. I'm not here to say the CT is lame, but it's a lot more expensive, it doesn't have a passthrough, it's only 1.7mm, there's to 500 mile range, vault stainless steel is gone, it's just way lamer, for 60% more ducats. LAME. Are you not SlightlySinged too? Thought so.
