Checking if I got the latest software (no) only to discover that my 20” Cyber wheels are now known as Mantle wheels, maybe Tesla mobile service broke into my garage and stole my wheels and updated my app?

it does seems very odd to rename an existing wheel.
You'd only do that if you really, really want to use the name elsewhere.

Grok response:
Tesla just quietly renamed the original Cyber wheels to Mantle wheels in the app and online store. No official explanation, but owners think it’s so they can reuse the “Cyber” name for something else later, like a new variant or product.
They’re the same wheels you’ve had all along — the aggressive-looking 20-inch ones that came with the all-terrain tires. The name’s different, but nothing on the truck changed.

Is there any significance to the name mantle

Not really, no official story from Tesla. “Mantle” just means a cloak or covering, like something that wraps over or protects. Owners are scratching their heads too — it feels random. The main theory is they freed up the “Cyber” name for a future wheel or product, nothing deeper than that. Same aggressive wheel you’ve got, just a new label.

So the aero covers are now crust covers too?
I was thinking lintel or chimney cap but either way what a weird name!! None of the AI have a explanation as to why this happened however Chat suggest that this aligns the naming convention better along the lines that you were thinking. It did not occur to me at all that the other wheels are called “core” and now these are called “mantle.” I’m sorry, now that I see what they’ve do I’m even more annoyed!

Nothing captures the essence of a 2.5-second 0-to-60 stainless steel beast quite like geological references to slow-moving lava and plate tectonics. Whose fault is this exactly?

Groan! 😫 🌋

My hopes and dreams of everything Cybertruck could become have been dismantled.
I think you’ve got it backwards
As far as the wheels are concerned.
Cybertrucks have become dis-Cybered
They have become Mantled

I'd assume they mean mantle like the rock climbing term: https://shop.frictionlabs.com/blogs/climb-your-impossible/how-it-works-the-mantle

We did a similar thing in parkour but we'd call them wall climbs, common when you'd hit a long jump into a cat (using your finger tips to hang on the side of a wall) or at the top of a wall run. Good times in college, only cost me part of my meniscus. Climbing a 14ft vertical wall is with it though, just need 5.10 Stealth rubber and a 6'4" frame 🤣.

I think they're trying to designate this wheel as the one for when you're really sending off road, since it's heavier and probably stronger than the Core.
