As noted before, obviously has an off road mode activated, seeing that it can spin it's wheels and loose traction like that around corners. This will be essential to keep momentum in soft beach sand.

But why no horizontal?? Don't people know how to twist the phone 90degrees to film and watch? 😱

A look at Tesla’s chase vehicles and equip, and some new angles on the over cab light bar

It's pretty ironic that the only issues they had was tyre flats.

But they obviously came prepared, with all the trailers, recovery and charging gear, and lots of spare wheels. All ahem, towed by ICE of course. 😁

Twitter and tiktok are portrait format 🤷🏻‍♂️
Figures. I don't use tiktok and barely x still. Apart from this weekend with all the lack of Israel war coverage on mainstream. Admittedly, except for following EM, probably the most I've used it at all.

I don't have any need for a light bar on the roof, but this one looks great. Well integrated and probably as low a profile as they could make it while still producing enough light.

So cool to see an actual video of performance to get a feel for the CT!

I like how you hear the noise of everything else rather than motor…. Like really like.

“Suddenly Switch to off-road mode and…totally change the ride handling characteristics of the vehicle” -off road mode confirmed.
FYI, Rivian [quad vs dual?] has:
  • Off-Road Drift (30 seconds in)
  • Off-Road Auto
  • Off-Road Rock Crawl
  • Off-Road Rally
  • Off-Road Sand (not in video as added later)

UPDATE: "This video features the drive modes of a factory-standard, 835 horsepower, quad motor Rivian R1T."

Good thing with more modes is that they are just one OTA update away. ;)

Although I don't mind having different driving modes, and have literally had them on my 4x4's for decades, I'm thinking from experience it might be possible to combine most of them into 2 or 3 specific modes and the rest can be automated.

Just as an example, the vehicle can actually pretty accurately determine the terrain surface just alone from being able to measure wheel slip, articulation, throttle and brake inputs, and steering angles. But given the more recent photos of the display, it looks like they are using the FSD cameras to monitor and display terrain. This could go one step further, in that the CT could not only see an obstacle, but also by identifying that obstacle, apply the ride mode automatically, to remedy it.

An off-road FSD of sorts.

One particular aspect that would be of interest, is linking the cameras ability to detect motion in 3D space, to determine how to apply the traction control for best progress. For example: In rock climbing you might have high suspension articulation and traction on the low wheels result in excessive wheel spin but only marginal, and directional progress because of steering lock. The auto mode, could then determine that at what level of wheel spin, or no wheel spin, better progress is being made. You can do the same for sand driving, where most of the time it is better to keep momentum and a good percentage of wheel spin, which produces forward thrust, if you don't have your tyres deflated to the right pressure for flotation. You can also adapt the throttle input to avoid bump acceleration/braking, or to set the throttle map to compensate for poor driver inputs, by learning how the driver responds sun-optimally to driving situations. Just alone a throttle limit for vehicle that are bogged and bottoming out would help greatly.
