“immersive sound system” is coming to feel a bit of a repurposing of the Cybertruck lore

the sound system is great, I agree

just surprised the sound system seems so increasingly listed high on the CT’s distinguishing qualities. feels like a swing away from the pre-Nov anticipatory lists of boat mode, range, unparalleled off-roading, bullet proof, able to leap tall buildings in single bound, etc.

like the mythology soup is settling, and the “real world” distinguishing qualities are now floating to the surface

Kyle from Out of Spec said: “it’s like you’re buying a $100k sound system and getting a free truck” so I’m not surprised to see this mentioned more and more.

I’m so excited to hear it in person when I pick mine up!

I mean, if he says so.

it’s a good sound system.

but it’s still very much an automobile sound system built by an OEM

I guess I’d rather and be interested in a high end car audio pro giving a review, before Kyle

and in any event, that the Cybertruck has a good audio system is essentially arbitrary. They could make a Model S with as good an audio system. They couldn’t make a Model S be a good off-roader.

which to me highlights the indictment underlying Kyle’s comments - which by the way was one of the many examples I’ve seen around this topic that prompted my initial comment above

that underlying indictment is, these collective comments start to feel a bit like, “yeah I guess it also has a bed and big tires, pretty much like any truck does - but what really makes the Cybertruck stand out from the crowd is its audio system

and fundamentally, I could take a 2015 Dodge Ram plus $3,000 and put in an audio system that would rival or surpass the Cybertruck’s.

Press X to doubt. Do you own a Tesla? They take pride in their sound systems.

Edit: to add a bit. I love my 2023 Model 3’s sound system. It sounds better than my 2018 Model 3 did and I loved that one. The 2024 (Highland) Model 3 is upgraded even further than my current one (although I haven’t heard it) and I know the Cybertruck sounds better than that (as Kyle has driven all of these and most every car in the industry and says it’s better).

My main point being is that I’m highly confident I’ll love the sound system and that’s more icing on the cake of all the other great features of the truck (which for me: no paint, no dents, tons of cargo capacity, smooth quiet ride, all the normal Tesla goodies, cooled seats, steer by wire… to name a few).

precisely

I suppose I’m just waxing critical of the fact that the sound system seems to be increasingly discussed not as “icing on the cake”

but instead as an increasingly prominent “differentiator”

because meanwhile, here’s the thing about the remainder of lists like the one you just gave:

there are a lot of alternative vehicles that can provide most of the things you listed. Range. Cooled seats. Even more cargo area. Even more interior space. And, with a few extra bucks, an equal or better sound system. Etc.

I’m not really trying to dog on the CT. I’m admittedly, though, perhaps a bit jaded and amused by what has been 4 years of Tesla fanbois regurgitating hopium-fueled lists of they ways in which the CT would eg “have a frunk 2X Larger than the Lightning,” or “a bigger bed than any BEV competition,” or “offroad capabilities that will make the Rivian look like child’s play,” or “range that so far outstrips the completion, the others will be bankrupt in a year,” etc., etc., etc.

NONE of which turned out to be true, or is increasingly looking indefensible with a mere hand wave.

and that as proof of that swing, in just a few short months, that when a fanboi like the tweets in OP show, they’re increasingly leaning on “sound system” when limited to 160 characters … is to me just … Wild

You are the first person rating the sound system in the Cybertruck "Good." All other reviewers, including YouTubers and real people, state "extraordinary", "amazing", etc.

I am an audiophile, and a truly immersive sound system is important to me in my vehicle. I spend a lot of my life in a vehicle and the first thing I do when I get in my vehicle is turn on the music.

So, yeah, I think it is fair when people include the sound system in their initial review of the CT. I just bought my son (20 years old) his first vehicle and when we were looking for vehicles, the first thing he checked is the sound system and if his Bluetooth will connect to vehicle okay so he can play his music.

Ah I was there getting my car serviced when they were prepping it. Looked insane in person!

Congratulations to you! A dream cast in steel.

I particularly like this photo. It gives a heightened sense of scale with the car in close proximity and a guy in the truck bed.

Because it only takes 10 seconds to check out the sound system.
