precisely
I suppose I’m just waxing critical of the fact that the sound system seems to be increasingly discussed not as “icing on the cake”
but instead as an increasingly prominent “differentiator”
because meanwhile, here’s the thing about the remainder of lists like the one you just gave:
there are a lot of alternative vehicles that can provide most of the things you listed. Range. Cooled seats. Even more cargo area. Even more interior space. And, with a few extra bucks, an equal or better sound system. Etc.
I’m not really trying to dog on the CT. I’m admittedly, though, perhaps a bit jaded and amused by what has been 4 years of Tesla fanbois regurgitating hopium-fueled lists of they ways in which the CT would eg “have a frunk 2X Larger than the Lightning,” or “a bigger bed than any BEV competition,” or “offroad capabilities that will make the Rivian look like child’s play,” or “range that so far outstrips the completion, the others will be bankrupt in a year,” etc., etc., etc.
NONE of which turned out to be true, or is increasingly looking indefensible with a mere hand wave.
and that as proof of that swing, in just a few short months, that when a fanboi like the tweets in OP show, they’re increasingly leaning on “sound system” when limited to 160 characters … is to me just … Wild
From your comments, my impression is that you are picky about sound... as am I.
Since you seem to have the capacity to be critical, I'd like to ask a really specific question about the sound but explaining the question may leave some offended... for which I will kind of apologize but to be frank not really.
I often cannot trust many people's reviews of sound systems in general because people tend to love sound systems that to me sound like a fork on a chalkboard.
One of the most common issues I have with automobile sound systems in general is people loving "more bass" indiscriminately, as if a subwoofer with crap response curves that makes the car rattle a lot is a good subwoofer. In particular, people tend to love ported or air baffle open subwoofers that to me are super ghetto awful in sound to the point where I just can't listen to them at all (I said I was picky, and I meant it).
I am skeptical about the subwoofers in the CT because they are ported and for me, it is an extremely rare ported subwoofer that I can listen to and actually enjoy... which leaves me thinking that the likelihood of me needing to replace them with higher powered sealed subs is quite high. I haven't heard anybody who says the sound system is amazing give any details as to why and especially I have not seen any reviews that address the response and sound of the dual ported subwoofers or how they mesh with the rest of the speakers in the system. So I have no idea if I should trust these comments or if the reviewers are people who like subwoofers I would literally throw in the trash. Often subwoofers can be so bad a system sounds better with them just removed unless they are well-integrated and this is much easier to do with a sealed and high-powered sub in my experience but this can be argued both ways and I respect the experience of others even if I do not agree. Science and measurements are one thing and one's genetics and tastes are another when it comes to listening.
Soooooo.... in the CT/CB is the subwoofer sound tight? Crisp? Or just boomy and awful to appease the masses that either don't care or cannot tell the difference, as is all too often the case? Are they musical? How's the bass EQ?
Any thoughts from those cursed with picky ears and an obsession with music?
Thanks in advance for any thoughts or comments or impressions / opinions.
Cheers all, and happy listening.
