Like that Samsung TV I used to have, with a gizmo connector to a box... but no HDMI input to the TV itself.
(A pain to diagnose when it sopped working)

I see our troll is back.
I don't think the guy is trolling. He's just hung up on kW vs kWh or something like that. Or I made a stupid math mistake.

Usually at the bottom of each ignored post, on most forums.

Hum, where's the 'show ignored posts' button?

-Crissa
There is probably no ignored content on the page in question. I’m not sure where SwampNut dredged that screenshot up from.

Now I wonder who's trolling whom. I'm slow today, allergy drugs kicking in, so I'm probably being trolled.

No. You are not being trolled. And I do not think you are trying to troll me.

You don't seem to fully grasp the distinction between energy and power and I was trying to clarify that but certainly didn't help matters by either sticking in that extra "k" or leaving out the decimal point (as you prefer). 12A @ 120V is defiitely 1440W or 1.440 kW. As is my policy whenever someone shows that I made an error I go back and edit the offending post and I have done that here.

So to try to explain: energy is the ability to do work. Power is the rate at which the work is done. In this case you mention that you observe 6kW draw when the A/C is going but that it only runs for 10 min in a precool operation. Ten minutes is 1/6 of an hour so the energy taken from the battery to do the precool is 6 kWh/h * 1/6 h = 1 kWh. When drawn over 1/6 hr, however, the rate at which it is drawn is 1 kwh/(1/6 h) = 6 kwh/h = 6 kw.

Now the UMC connected to 120 can supply 1.44 kWh/h. Therefore, if it is operated for 1/1.44 h it will supply the kWh necessary to do the precool operation. But you must operate it BEFORE precooling for long enough to get the kWh into the battery.

Now this is so fundamental that anyone with a modicum of electrical knowledge should have been able to easily detect the typo especially after the second post reiterated in detail without the typo so perhaps "You made a typo" would have been a more appropriate response than "Your math is wrong". Perhaps it is I who is being trolled?

In case it wasn't clear. It was not @SwampNut that I was calling a troll.
Ohhhh. I see!

Yes, I guess it's all the trolling that has earned me 3275 likes on 3073 posts. Maybe you, too, could learn something.

Yeah, the buttons to show the folded content are missing unless you quote them.

Phoo. That's frustrating. I just want the posts hidden, not inaccessible.

I fully understand energy and power at a very deep level. The 120v outlet cannot supply the power needed by the AC. That is all. I don't let opinions get involved in simple math problems--facts.

Your math was wrong = you have a typo, snowflake.

:devilish:

Doesn't appear so.

The 120v outlet cannot supply the power needed by the AC.
It can easily supply the energy. That's what it's for. Again this statement seems to illustrate shallow understanding of the basic concepts. And the fact that you would even attempt to argue something so obvious supports it further.

That is all. I don't let opinions get involved in simple math problems--facts.
No opinions here. Simple fact. The UMC can supply the energy needed for the cooldown. Not at the rate required when the compressor is going full tilt but that's what the battery is for.

Your math was wrong = you have a typo, snowflake.
A typo isn't usually considered a math error when the intent is so obvious (to the knowledgeable), rutabaga.
