Wow.. that is truly bad. Makes me wonder if the semi is actually getting the 1.7 they claim. It would be insane for a loaded Tesla semi to regularly attain better economy than an unloaded pickup truck.
〽?

It’s nothing special at all. If they lied about 1.7, they’d be sued certainly.

Eh.

I have no doubt they drove the truck 500 miles and got 1.7 miles/ kWh on that trip. Ford similarly drove their truck a set distance and got their stated range numbers. It isn’t about fraud or litigation, it’s about actual real world use.

Under what conditions does the Semi get the stated efficiency? The test run was at 55 MPH the whole way were there any other tweaks done to get the range they needed for that test run?

It would be insane if the CT could do 500 miles pulling 14000lb with 3500lb in the bed.

Semi appears to get 1.7 kWh / mile. That’s 0.59 miles / kWh. F150L data shows better than 1.7 miles / kWh. Not amazingly, the pickup gets better mileage ?
THANK YOU.

Just a coincidence of numbers that lulled me into thinking the two were the same metric. I should pay closer attention!!!

I don’t know if I’ve ever even thought about that much stuff that totals that weight. Hahah

meanwhile and also, the F150L with an EPA stared 320mi of range has a >131 kWh battery.

131kWh x 2.1mi/kWh = 275mi

For my use facts (e.g., TX summer temps, goosing it like teen, etc.), that’s expected and consistent with the EPA stated 320mi combined range.

I’m just not following what people find surprising or disappointing here.

The Semi gets 0.58 miles per kilowatt, tho. That's much worse than that chart!

The fact the ration - 1.7 kW to 1 mi is similar is tripping your brain.

Oops, the reply was in the gap. Duplicated.

I think Commercial trucks are restricted to 55 MPH in the whole state of California. That would make it a real world test.
I ran West Coast in a Commercial Vehicle back in the late 70's and early 80's. Prob the best place to test the Semi under real world conditions.

Or lower! Many mountain passes have lower speeds for trucks and trailers than for passenger cars.

I'm waiting for some kind of Truckers' or Motor Trend guys to do some stress tests, but not crazy nor unreasonable, on fully loaded Tesla semi on brutal but realistic conditions along the westbound Truckee I-80 corridor in winter conditions.

I am not expecting the worst as I'm confident Tesla would have addressed most tech and performance issues, just setting and truing up for realistic expectations.

I spoke with someone working at Kato road and he or she said they have built greater then 20 trucks(he or she is directly involved). They are currently testing in Alaska and the middle east. What I don't understand, if he or she is telling the truth, how is it possible we have not seen more photo/videos? He or she also insisted that the tri-motor was more likely to be the production truck that they will initially produce. Either way they were very convincing that the quad motor may not be the first truck produced.

Truth be told I don't think worker bees or engineers know the whole plan. They might know more about prototype features and testing, but likely just as much in the dark about production as any of us.

We don't generally see them ship trucks to Alaska.

Take it with a grain of salt, I am not betting anything on any rumor. That's what they said, they do indeed work at Kato road, so they likely know. Told me a lot of information on the 4680 as well. Majority of thread here are rumors or opinions, this one is no different.

Tesla building 20-30 sounds unlikely, but it’s possible.

I’ve heard about Cybertruck Alaska winter testing previously so that would not surprise me at all. Alaska is very big and there are a lot of airfields and gravel roads out there where the chances of a random person spotting the truck is pretty unlikely. Likewise the Middle East. Though I’m not sure why they would do testing in the Middle East myself. There are a fair number of places in the US where they could test for hot conditions.

After seeing the semi and it’s final setup, I kind of wonder if the tri motor won’t ship first as well. Having a truck with a super efficient drive train that gets the best range I think would make a huge splash.

Not really a prediction, but I wouldn’t be surprised. Particularly if the quad is going to be their “Plaid”/ max performance truck. The market is not ideal for a top dollar supertruck at the moment. A more practical entrant might make more sense Today.
