I don’t believe they are actually calling the current model s and X plaids so much as they are calling out the powertrain & suspension changes like the F150 does with a Tremor add on.I don’t think they would call the tri motor “Plaid” if they had a quad motor in the wings.
Not sure what naming will look like on the Cybertruck. Maybe “Dual” and “Tri” might stick? Then they could pump out a Quad Plaid later.
This brings up one of those weird gray areas with 4WS. If you are on a single lane road and turning hard, you’d want the rear wheels to be neutral or pivot in line with the front wheels, not crab style like when you are passing someone or changing lanes on the highway.
@Bill906 was talking about this situation the other day.
That being said a 3 motor would still be a plaid and the 4 would be something new. Were I them I would call it the 4^4 as in 4 wheels x 4 wheel drive x 4 wheel steering x 4 motors.
