Early 90's, Mr and Mrs Smith lovely salt of the earth old couple, long time customers were looking to buy a short sleeve shirt.

It was the beginning of the China imports. Their attention switching between the $40 Pelaco long time AU brand, and the very similar $30 Chinese import which was right next to it.

I could feel their struggle.

It was the litmus test .. I was watching in anticipation to see which one they would buy. They purchased the Chinese $30 shirt.

Over the years.. we know what happened.

If CT offers more... History repeats.

I have been saying the same thing for a while but I have been using the phrase, “for IT folks” but basically the same thing. The truck took a direction at some point of having more plastic and less utility. I wish the truck took more of a turn towards the Bollinger B2 type of utility.

Don’t get me wrong. I think the CT will be the best selling truck in the US within 3 or 4 years and Ford is rightfully scared. The CT will outperform most other trucks on the market, but in general I think it seems like there are some elements that make it a little more fragile in some areas.

Oops!
Seems like Farley missed the boat from Ford 'planned obsolescence' to ' bulletproof, stainless steel, million mile, military strength, super excellence'.

CEO of Ford says rival truck won't appeal to Ford's customer base. What a shock.
D'at's FUnnY! No really, that is a joke. I am a Ford guy. I have three vehicles out of the four I own that are Ford. The fourth, or dare I say FIRST car is a Tesla model Y. I drive a 71 F250 because I cannot abide a short bed truck. I haven't been able to rationalize a new F250 because the direct replacement for payload and bed size would break my bank... for what? Cruise control, malicious engineering, and cloth seating for one extra adult and an anemic child? Nah. Ford hasn't made a worker's truck for over a generation. I know several people on here do NOT agree with my disdain for short bed trucks and mandated trailer use for material runs. But, for Chris' less famous cousin to mouth off when the truck bed he is touting as a "working man's truck" is a full 12 inches shorter than the Cybertruck's is ballsy! He need... NEEDS to suck up to Tesla if his brand is going to survive Tesla's superior products.

Seriously, I work on my cars and I curse Ford every time I have to rotate tires, change the oil, or diagnose a bad 12V battery... in a hybrid. I may love my 1966 and 1971 Fords, but Ford has become what Henry despised, overly complicated, fashionable, and less value than the competition (Tesla).

Maybe the real people he makes trucks for don’t work that hard or that frequently.

For over 100 years cars have had a big engine and mostly its been placed under the hood in the front.

So it will be a matter of time and people will get used to not having to shape a car in order to accommodate the engine.

CT will create a new practical tradition built on common sense.

Farley clearly kissed Elons ring during the Twitter Spaces NACS announcement and I'm sure he got a lot of negative feedback from within the Ford world. This is just more false bravado from a guy who can't sell an an EV for half what it costs him to make it. Ford is counting on the next generation EV's and strong bread and butter F150 sales to keep the ship afloat. Any concessions to the Cybertruck are non-starters but I'm sure those 1.5M CT reservations give him some reservations of his own.

And if those people want to quibble about towing range, I say:

if you need a truck to regularly tow an RV long distances, then BEV battery sizes aren’t there just yet, but will be soon. If instead you regularly tow eg a ski boat an hour or two to the lake, the Lightning towing performance is better than many competing 3/4 ton trucks, and for the price of residential electric rates. So when it comes to current BEV towing comparisons, it all depends on your use case … and increases pack sizes and charge infra will soon close all gaps.”
Range is not so much about battery size, but rather overall efficiency (see Hummer EV). The Lightning is a ICE F150 with battery and electric motors. Farley admitted they need to do a clean sheet design, and rethink the manufacturing process in order to achieve success (measurable by profit margins) with any EV product. They are not even close to doing either of those things. If the Cybertruck is what we all hope it will be, Ford (and GM) will find competing with the Cybertruck is impossible no matter how they characterize it (yuppy, ugly etc).

I dont think anyone thinks that the CT is going to dethrone the f150, they have like 100 versions.
Well... I believe the CT will dethrone the F150. I believe Elon believes the CT will dethrone the F150. If not then why did he specifically show a video of a CT winning a tug of war with an F150. The CT is an in-your-face Nate Diaz slap aimed at Ford.

I wonder if Farley knows that most of his real people truck buyers are soccer moms, Costco explorers and weekend golf warriors?
There are pictures of golf clubs burned into frunk as unit of volume (instead of internationally accepted chickens ?)

I'm not a real person and I don't do real work, that's why the CT is perfect for me.
In a few months CT is going to get real and you will have to find something else ;)

If CT offers more... History repeats.
I completely agree with your point. Value often wins. However there are a few circumstances that may have impact on the outcome. If it is priced like a hummer but offers a whole lot more. Or If the ”more” perceived by Tesla is different from “more” perceived by average consumer.

Simply for buzz. And the Lightning came out before the CT, so what is that it your Nate Diaz world?

I mean I guess it's possible but by dethrone I mean sell more than. Seems highly unlikely

Well the Lightning is a good truck for Ford to sell provided they don't sell too many since they're losing so much money on them. The Lightning is like the little moan a fighter makes after Nate Diaz tags them in the gut.

Sure. Sell more than. I believe it will sell more than the F150. But it depends on price. No point in arguing about it we just have to wait and see at this point. I bet we'll have a pretty good idea how it will all play out by September when hopefully we have some prices. I bet by 2026 it will have had at least one quarter where the CT has sold more than the F150.
