The issue for legacy is Tesla may take 20% of each of them. Tesla will end up with a healthy number of sales, but legacy will have dropped 20%.

I like statements like this. Poking the bear could lead to lower prices on the Cybertruck, just to be vindictive. It’s not wise to challenge Elon. Though Mark will kick his ass in a cage match ?

As much as I like the Cybertruck it is not a replacement for a solid axle 3/4 ton work truck in it's present form. Yes, Tesla could build a serious electric work truck, but it wouldn't ride or handle anything like Cybertruck, and wouldn't need all the high tech bells and whistles. CT is more like a big armored model Y, which for most drivers is way more practical and fun than a clunky old world 4X4 ICE pickup.

I like your point and I basically agree with it except that we don't really know yet how it will perform as a work truck. I am a little suspicious it might not be as good as a work truck for real work. But let's wait and see. It might be a year and a half before we see a negative review on youtube, but that is kind of the starting point. Today you can find the occasional bad review on youtube for the MY or M3, and some are legitimate and some are just people with weird unrealistic expectations or people who made dumb mistakes like buying a performance Model Y when they live on a gravel road in the middle of nowhere.

But honestly most people with pickups never go to Home Depot, so for all the cowboys who need hats more than they need cattle the Cybertruck should more than fit the bill.

Ford has made some great trucks for the past 60-70 years. They do know what THOSE customers want. That includes people that tow a large RV, large boat, go up into the mountains, use it for renovating their house, take long trips, etc.

The Cybertruck IMO will trickle out in 2024 and have no impact on Ford F150, F250, F350 and F450 sales. Or Ford's commercial vans. Will the Cybertruck steal sales for the new Ford Lightning in 2024? Probably not. lf you don't already have a reservation for a Cybertruck, your only option for an eV pickup is going to be the Lightning.

The Cybertruck has to fill a lot of existing orders, which will take until 2026 at least, then after thta they might be competing for Ford Lightning sales. But by then Ford's Gen2 Lightning will be out. Which will undoubtably be favored by some just based on looks. There are still plenty of people that will never buy a CT based solely on it's "ugly design". I think there is room for Cybertrucks, Ford Lightnings, and ICE F-Series trucks. There are many different use cases.

only 15000 f150 lightings sold in 2022 and there does not seem that any ramp up has occurred for 2023. Tesla May sell more cybertrucks between q4 2023 and q1 2023 than ford has ever sold of f150. One other detail. Ford has not made a profit on its f150 and does not expect to for years. With these factors in mind, and Ford dragging its feet, I predict cybertruck will be the best selling truck in the world by 2025. What do you think?

I'm honestly surprised you can be so deluded. Maybe this is Gordon Johnson's secret Cybertruck trolling account. What the tesla detractors do not understand despite all the evidence that comes in day by day, month by month, quarter by quarter, year by year, and decade after decade, is that tesla is not trying to corner the EV market, they are trying to corner the automobile market. The Model Y and Model 3 are respectively the number 4 and number 10 (not 8, sorry, mistake) best selling cars in North America so far this year (https://www.caranddriver.com/news/g43553191/bestselling-cars-2023/) despite being cars selling at a price point in the luxury range. And in other countries the Model Y is *the* best selling car. To think that the Cybertruck will be just scratching out a living in competition with the Ford Lightning without cannibalizing F150 sales (not to mention other pickup sales and other kinds of vehicle completely) is absurdly delusional, unless there is some unforeseen problem with production or some design flaw we do not yet know. This vehicle is going to destroy other manufacturers. It's going to put companies out of business.

Those seem like pretty small niche needs within the pickup community. Tesla could leave that market to Ford and focus on serving the needs of the other 98% of pickup owners who don't need those things.

What Ford did 40-70 years ago doesn't advantage them in any way beyond their current engineering and design.

What is shocking is how little the truck has changed from an engineering perspective in the last 40-50 years.

That's about ready to change in a fundamental way. In 5 years media pundits will act surprise that the Cybertruck outsells the traditional leader. Currently, they treat it as a joke which is a HUGE mistake considering how tough the Cybertruck will be compared to the competition.

Ford will have to abandon their slogan "Built Ford tough" because it will be clear to everyone what a sham that statement really is. That it doesn't mean what it sounds like it's supposed to mean.

I've owned and used a Ford truck for the previous 14 years and can't wait to get rid of it, even though it only has around 50,000 miles on the odometer, basically all miles of "real" truck usage, hauling trailers, firewood, appliances, construction materials, rental equipment, dirt, gravel, beauty bark, etc. In other words, Farley is talking out of the sides of his mouth when he says his customers will not buy the Cybertruck. The Cybertruck will appeal to just about anyone who buys a truck because they need a 1/2 ton truck.
