These are great opportunities for aftermarket kits and installs.

Awhile back I saw that the 2019 Chevy Silverado had an optional power liftgate.

I thought it'd be a handy feature for Cybertruck so I tweeted Elon about it (spoiler: he didn't respond). As far as I could tell from the unveil video stream and Jay Leno video, the vault cover is automated, but the liftgate and ramp are manual.

Just wondering what everyone else's thoughts were. Would a power liftgate and/or power ramp on the Cybertruck be a useful option? Should Tesla consider adding as an option or include standard on high end trims? Is it too cost prohibitive for little material usage gain? What do you think?
I like the idea of it, but honestly, I've never thought "I wish this damn thing were automated" when I lift up me tailgate. I'd take if it didn't raise the price, sure, but wouldn't pay a dime more to get it.
Nay.

I'm pretty sure I have wished that pretty much every time. Why does this have a janky handle? Why doesn't it close and I have to slam it every time? Why do I have to get out in the rain to open it before backing up to the dock?

The big question in my mind is whether I have to 'trade' things that Elon promised me (e.g., ramp, wing storage, lockable storage, 3mm stainless, 500-mile range, etc.) to get these new features. If they want to 'add' them, even if they cost money, that is fine (I guess) but I don't want them thinking for a minute that if they give me one thing they can take another away. Will I still get the truck? In most of those cases, yes, but I will surely whine about it :)

The Lightning’s power tail gate was totally off my radar when buying.

But I’ll admit I’ve grown to appreciate it.

No more/less useful than, say, the powered rear hatches on Most SUV’s these days.

And like with those SUV features, the powered tailgate means my petite wife - or other differently abled folks - can operate/close the tailgate effortlessly.

Sometimes we forget there are buyers/users without the same physical capabilities.

Same goes for powered hood - which my wife couldn’t reach to manually close if she wanted to.

From today’s twitter video… As was mentioned there, looks like ”cover open”, “Cover closed”, “Tailgate up/down”

Never thought about a powered tailgate before, and don't really need it. But its there, so... cool. I'll take it. And use it.

But powered tailgate ramp... no thanks. Unnecessary weight and complexity that we don't need. Like most have said, the Russian doll ramp is something that will sit unused for 99% of most owners time. Doesn't make sense to add all that weight and complexity for the handful of times 99% of owners will use it.

I'll just be ecstatic to have the ramp at all. Something I'm very skeptical of at this time. It's my #1 desired feature outside of the mission critical vehicle features.

I'm going off of the button and the patent. What we don't know is what version was the truck in the videos. IF I add Elon's comment about the "tradition" of going to in-n-out with a vehicle about to be released, then it might appear that the camo trucks are the latest versions. But without knowing where each sample sits in the evolution of the truck, speculation becomes less and less accurate.

For my speculation, the fat lady ain't singing yet, but she is doing her warm-ups.

Payload is 1500lb, the hinges look industrial strength, the mechanism can lift a Grand piano. This is a work truck.. you could badly load a pallet and not harm anything.
