interesting approach Rolls-Royce is taking
Maybe Tesla will with CT

also interesting read on the electric car as well. Assume that many of us are not cross shopping this one.?
the high-end luxury retailers have taken similar approaches for a while. they go so far as to disallow purchasing a sought-after model if you don't have the requisite purchasing history. e.g., most Ferrari's you cannot walk in off the street with cash and purchase.

but ferrari sells ~8,000 units annually, rolls royce like 5,500 annually

and, their clients are drawn towards exclusivity

nothing worse than people flipping luxury products meant for the 1% instead to people in the 0.8%!
Ha agreed.
however, respectfully, 1%ers are not gonna be able to afford a $420,000 car I think that’s the 0.1%ers ?
But I know what you meant?

This is copied directly from Tesla sales agreement.

Tesla and its affiliates sell cars directly to end-consumers, and we may unilaterally cancel any order that we believe has been made with a view toward resale of the Vehicle or that has otherwise been made in bad faith,” reads the clause.

Search Reddit or the Teslamotor forum and you’ll see people complaining of having their orders canceled after flipping a few cars.

Nice! I’m all for it !
of course the occasional stray that decides against a new car they bought may get banned from the brand would be too bad, but hopefully Tesla has some data algorithm to help minimize that

I actually think tesla doesn’t need to do anything. Vehicles that get flipped dont have a run rate of 150k+ units annually.
I ordered more than ill end up using, because at the time it was a 6 seater that was gonna be part of the work fleet.
If I sell them for the current retail value plus the retail value of FSD even though it cost me $7k, thats not flipping imo, its more like wholesaling.

Uh sounds like flipping to me
You can call it wholesaling if it makes you feel good, but if I was Tesla, I would consider banning this activity

Ideally, you don’t take delivery of a vehicle you don’t intend to keep.

In house, plane, land, and I believe car flipping, the whole idea is to buy below retail and resell at retail. Selling above retail isn't flipping, it's scalping. Please correct me if I misunderstand you, but you said you were going to buy with the discounts that the reservation afforded you (like FSD) and sell at full retail, thus making a profit.

The differentiator is selling at YOUR retail, vs. selling at CURRENT retail. And given that Tesla doesn't have dealers that buy at "wholesale" and then resell at "retail", and the agreement as posted above is pretty clear, you would be running afoul of the manufacturer and the legally binding purchase agreement. That should have an effect on your moral thought process. Then again, that may be something you don't ever consider.

What I ultimately choose to do with all my reservations is ultimately my business.
used values for vehicles were north of 20% above retail for some cars the last couple years. Were people selling them or just addressing the market demand?

We’re not talking about buying used vehicles and selling them at 20% plus
we’re talking about buying a new vehicle where there is a long wait list and selling it at a premium. Yes you do you. Point of this thread is auto makers options to ban the activity.
