Did anyone else read the title of this thread and think we were gonna talk about a 350 mile range for an ATV that could be put in the back of our CT. And my first thought was, "Is this going to be available at launch?"

I predict reservation holders aren‘t going to pass on their Cybertruck purchase due to “only” a 350 mile range. Even Rivian doesn’t have their 400 mile range Max Pack available yet.
I will. 500 miles of range was the minimum starting point for me to consider an EV truck.

Some of this thread has devolved into the inevitable "My dream CT spec" vs "Your dream CT spec," which is human nature. If you hope to replace your F350 King Ranch Super Duty for interstate angus hauling, and your brother-in-law hopes to replace his F150 XL single cab that hauls 6' step ladders and 2x4x8'ers across town for his handyman business, both of you will likely be disappointed with whatever the CT initial configuration is.
With any theoretical configuration, there will be some saying that's too much and others saying, that's not enough. There is no magic Goldilocks Edition CyberTruck that will be perfect for everyone. With every previous Tesla launch, many had to wait for their Plaid/short range/7-seater/$35k/extended range/whatever version. This one will be no different.
It does us no good to get super worked up and contentious about theoretical specs entirely based on a rumor.

So you mean to say that the biggest mistake I've been making in life is that I've been shaving?

EDIT Tesla just changed it to 80% daily recommended max and subtract another 10% for not sweating bullets with range anxiety approaching zero means 280 miles when brand new.
Pull another 5-7% for what in my experience was the true range below the stated range, when brand new. ~ 230 miles for daily use.

when DC fast charging the rate falls off a cliff above 65-70% so in the interest of time, thats when you definitely wanna be back on the highway especially on those that charge by time. Protecting the bottom 10% of the battery again, thats 210 miles of stated range between stops.

truck needs to have at least 400 miles of range from my perspective and for those with dreams of towing an rv, flat towing a jeep, atvs etc long distances. it really needs 500 miles IMO

Ya know what I’m not getting here (quite a bit, I’m sure)? I never knew so many people (especially when shoved into a crew cab, 6 at a time) were willing to drive 6.5-7 HOURS without stopping. And that they had to do it so often… Think about that… 7 hours with 5 other guys without a single stop. You know that at least 1 out of 6 didn’t take a shower that morning. And being that these are guys, 2 out of 6 (minimum) ate something that either doesn’t agree with them, or is high in fiber. And for a 7 hour drive, 5 out of 6 just pounded a 32 ouncer of coffee. (And I don’t mean the ethically sourced Ethiopian light roast either) 7 hours in a truck with these guys… no stopping…

Dang, I lead a sheltered life..

Let's do the math! I'll put a 500-mile Silverado up against a 350-mile Cybertruck.
  • Journey of 1000 miles
  • Range reduced by half due to towing
  • Silverado stops to charge 4x
  • Cybertruck stops to charge 7x
  • Charge sessions take ~20 minutes

In my 1000-mile journey, I've spent an extra 1 hour in the Cybertruck. Assuming that I make this trip once a week, and my time is valued at $50/hour, then in 1 year my lost time is worth $2600.

So if Cybertruck is $60k vs the Silverado $80k, I can keep this up for about 8 years and essentially break even.

Is more range better? Sure. Does less range mean it's not a "full size pickup"? Hardly.
some routes do not have charge station within 100 miles..

only reason I want the cybertruck instead of other brand is 500 miles change.

I don't think there'll be a quad version at all.....That extra motor can go back onto the line for another CT. the Semi isn't, therefore why should the CT ?
