I've got 5 on it (8K - 47k reservations)

On Cybertruck launch day, I tried numerous times to pre-order without luck.

Hours later, 5 reservation confirmations hit my email at once.

I kept all 5 reservations.

I'm about 8k in line for my top spot and 47k for my lowest.

I'm EXTREMELY interested in how Tesla rolls this out:
  • How big will the "batches" be (or could it be a free-for-all)?
  • How long will people have to upgrade their "reservation" to a "pre-order"? (aka plunk down money)
  • If you prefer to wait for a configuration that's not available on launch, do you lose your spot in line?
I'm excited to see how this plays out! Worst case scenario, I get $500 back and you're all 5 spots closer to the front.

However, I kept all 5 reservations because of the enormous potential I see for the Cybertruck to be a landmark release. It opens the doors to a lot of potential opportunities, especially when you consider footnotes that have flown under the radar (like the ATVs) and the possibility of 3rd party add-ons (like the campers).

I've got some ideas on how I'll be using my reservations (stay tuned), but I'm curious: for those with multiple CT reservations, how are you planning to use them? For an existing business? For a new business? And what are you expecting in terms of the rollout and financial commitment/window timeline you'll be expected to follow?

It will most likely be in batches based on reservation # and maybe other things like location.

How it has worked in the past is that once you receive an invite to configure, you could choose not configure at that time and hold onto the configuration until the model you want is released, and then configure it at that time.

This effectively means once you receive an invite you are in the queue and can configure at any time.

Of course, the sooner you configure the sooner you will probably receive your vehicle.

Once you configure, then the order process begins and you have to put down a deposit (probably $2500) and you will go into the order placed queue. Once in that queue you will wait for a VIN to be assigned to your order and then Tesla will schedule a tentative delivery/pickup date for the vehicle and you need to get your finances in order for the delivery.

If they invite the first 50k reservations to configure, and the quicker you configure the earlier you get your vehicle, another mad dash to plunk down money as fast as possible is on the horizon?

How big that first "batch" is will dictate so, so much. Heck, they could instantly open it up to the first 1 million if they really wanted. FCFS and see what happens. Offer to jump the line with full payment. Pretty much anything!

I won't feel burned regardless of how they do it... but obviously for the sake of self-interest I'm hoping they honor the "place in line" of early reservations. Seems like it' would be in their best interest (so they can collect $100 x 1.5M = $150,000,000 USD up front years in advance again).

I doubt they would invite in 50k chunks and hopefully not 1 million, that would just piss a ton of people off and likely overwhelm the people responsible for processing orders.

It would probably be in much smaller chunks based on how many vehicles they are currently producing per week. At the beginning of the ramp, think maybe a thousand invites at a time, not tens of thousands.

not to mention, unlike with the “pre-sale” agreements from 2019, If Tesla let’s you configure an actually-available model at a given price, and take a legit deposit from buyers, then Tesla would really be at risk for claims if pricing/availability changes

If they want to avoid that risk (and I assume they will) they’ll allow configuration in batches that relate to their risk-adjusted view of production availability and delivery timelines at a given moment

if they’re cranking out 10K trucks a month, they could open a batch of say 30k orders (with 3-month risk horizon)

Fill in your preferred skepticism/hopium-adjusted run rate;)

This is inline with my assumptions as well. Tesla would send out enough invites at a time to match their current production rate for a period of time (probably a month or so of production if I was to guess) and begin the order process on those vehicles.

They would then send out a second round of invites if not enough orders are placed from the first batch, since there would be a percentage of buyers who do not go through with the purchase at that time.

Where things can get tricky for them is when they drop a new trim in the future that people have been saving order configuration invites for, that is when they would have the potential for a backlog of placed orders verses production.

When they do get ready to release a new trim, they would likely send a notice email/sms blast to those with config invites who have not completed them notifying them of the new trim and asking them to place orders.

Interesting. I had the same experience as CyberExcursion on reveal night. I tried several times to place an order. Each time the process spit me out before I could see confirmation of my order. I ended up with 3 orders, which like others, I kept given the nominal $100 fee. If this was a common occurrence early reservations may be from a surprisingly small pool of OCD people like me who could not possibly put down their phone or laptop device without confirmation of success.

Didn't read anyone others posts. But I think they've figured out shipping vehicles and have constant shipments everywhere. I think they could free for all by RN

Congrats on 5 trucks!

Me? Flip the early VIN’s for a nice profit and keep the 5th reservation.
You left out become a YouTuber with a Cybertruck related name and then change your name to a generic ev related name once the hype dies down

Flipping vehicles on Cars & Bids or Bring a Trailer is much easier than going the YouTube route.

I have 3 early Cybertruck reservations so I have had nearly 4 years to come up with a strategy.

Any early reservation holder who is considering canceling their CT pre-order is throwing free money down the drain. Flip that sucka to a “gotta have it now” Cybertruck buyer.
