You have got to be kidding me. Looks like more than 1/3 of the bed. Decreased payload. At $16K! Frankly Tesla should have gone with a software locked extended battery. While not a 470 mile range, say 390-400 miles would be better than this bizarre (stupid) option.

That's not a bad idea because it would make most people realize they simply don't need more range than 5 hours on the Interstate because Superchargers dot the country and they charge really fast.

Oh, wait, I almost forgot, everybody needs to tow gargantuan 5th wheelers from coast to coast, what was I thinking?

:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
Why is this so humorous? Don't most people who want a truck need it for more serious endeavors like hauling and towing?
Elon promised a truck that would tow 14K and would have a 500+ range which made that dream plausible to the likes of me.
A Rivian is perfectly alright to toodle along and go to costco for a new TV.
I WAS hoping that I could replace my diesel pusher for a 5er or a bumper pull toy hauler. But I guess I have to wait a few more years for that.
(This AND the possibility to tow a Tesla four down).

4 years and 4 days after I placed my deposit for a trimotor Cybertruck with a claimed "500+ miles of range", Tesla yesterday produced the trimotor Cybertruck (Cyberbeast) with only 320 miles of range, and with a truly odd and optional ($16,000) "range extender" that has to be mounted in the truck bed (reducing cargo capacity by 1/3rd...!) and extends range only to 440 miles. With that large and heavy 50kWh range extender installed, the truck bed is rendered almost useless, and one has to wonder about potential downsides from raising the center of gravity significantly by the high placement of this heavy range extender. Apparently, Tesla chose to limit the Cybertruck to a single-stack battery arrangement, rather than allowing a 500-mile-capable double-stack battery arrangement for the trimotor variant. If Tesla can't produce a trimotor Cybertruck with 500-miles of range and a fully-usable truck bed by the time when they are ready to 'fill my order' in a year or so, it appears that I will choose instead to get my deposit refunded.

why?

Because, like you, most people make the mistake of assuming the market for this Vehicle is simply the pool of existing truck owners….it is NOT. I would go so far as to argue this vehicle is in a Class by itself and nothing comes close to providing the full Tesla package—and there are literally MILLIONS of people who would buy this Vehicle if given the opportunity even though they had never even thought about owning a “Truck” before…watch and learn…

So, if you put an offer on a "to-be-built" loghome that meets your criteria for style and functionality, and four years down the road it's a transitional architecture with lower quality "but looks so innovative and cool" you'd be happy about it in the end?
I'm not saying I won't go through with the purchase. But if something more suitable comes along I'll sell in a flash to the one who wants flash.

Elon set the "Market" for this vehicle four years ago by saying this is a work horse powerhouse, and not a "Hollywood cruiser"

What does a loghome have to do with the CyberTruck?

Back in the REAL world, Details about the CT’s capabilities & pricing were being discussed and expectations adjusted commensurately well before the reveal…to compare what was originally proposed over 4 years ago to what was revealed today is to ignore the recalibration of expectations that continually took place from then to now…the fact that you must pretend like the last 4 years never happened to make your point is revealing of its inaccuracies…

Just a vague example. Look, I'm not going to argue with you about this. I love Tesla and my Tesla vehicles. Expectations just will have to be lowered i guess. Like everything else around here

Expectations were changed over the course of nearly half a decade…if you failed to keep up that’s on you…

Looks like something that I should rent for the trips rather than spend several thousand dollars. Maybe I will buy one and put it on the market to rent.
Will Turo start a special division for battery rentals? ? ?

Today, at price $79K+ there are not "MILLIONS of people who would buy this Vehicle (340mi dual-motor AWD or 342mi tri-motor AWD )".

Even in 2025/2026 when/(IF) the cheaper single motor rear drive for $61K arrives there are not "MILLIONS of people who would buy this Vehicle". All three trims totaled together might not even break 80K per year.

Ohh shit. For once in his life, Jim Cramer might have been right when he said Cybertruck would be lucky to sell 50K units !!!
