500 mile range target, $69,900 price at reveal. 320 mile estimate range (200 possible real world) $99,000 release price. All this and 3,000 lower tow rating. Do I need to purchase the $16,000 range extender so I can tow my trailer out of the garage? If I took twice as long to do a job for a customer, built it smaller and charged 40% more, it would be a tough conversation and I would be eating some of my mistake. Glad I'm 44,000 down the list. I've got some thinking to do.
At #27000 I thought I wouldn't get an invite to purchase a FS Cybertruck. However it showed up 5 days ago. The Limited Edition is probable as many as Tesla can sell for the extra $20k. Tesla will likely then shut down the FS and begin selling standard Cybertrucks.
Watch your email. You'll probable get an invite in a couple weeks.

Yes, sales. I’ll leave Austin for Houston or Dallas in the morning. Do customer and board meetings from 10-3 then head back. I’ll average 25-30k miles every year.

Austin to Houston is 182 miles and 2.5 hour drive. Austin to Dallas is 184 miles and a 2.5 hour drive. Round trip for each is somewhere around 360-400 miles depending on meeting locations. Probably average one of these drives every week which amounts to 20k miles a year.

FSD would be really nice to have!

A range in the 400+ range is really nice to have!

I have a gx550 on order for my wife also, so I’ll probably switch in between the two depending on circumstances.
Get a S.

Lots of real world range numbers are coming in via videos getting posted now that some non Tesla employees are getting trucks.
Early report of really bad efficiency like 810 wh/mile were chalked up to speeds over 70MPH, bad driving, etc.
New numbers coming in now are no better at lower speeds.

zimage7075.png

zimage7074.png

20 mile test drive (ended up being 21)
Average speed of 63 MPH
Mostly highway driving
689 Wh/mi
Giving the AWD Cybertruck a range of 178.5 miles

*Notes*
2 Passengers
2 Carry on size suitcasestonneau
Tonneau cover closed
Minimal HVAC
Nothing being towed/hauled
Battery was warm as this was a stop on long trip and this was supercharger 3+ on the trip

*Edit*
More #s coming in from road trippers and cross country trippers.
Most Wh/mi are in the high 600s to mid 700s :(
zimage7077.png

More #s posted.
Effectively downhill with a total elevation loss of over 400'
117 mile trip
Temperature of 60-65 f
Battery went from 86% to 10% (76%)
Roughly a 700 wh/mi AKA real world range of 180 miles :(
Required 55min charge to have enough range to do the next leg of 148 miles with a 10% reserve
ctr.jpg

*Edit
More #s coming in from a full charging video 14-90% by ourcyberlife
The charging numbers look pretty bad, even at a V3 supercharger and are in line with other early reports.
Basically drive 143mins and then have to charge for 50+
zimage7081.png
zimage7082.png
zimage7083.png

Temperature was about ideal at 73 degrees f
zimage7084.png

*Edit
A set of trip numbers from a driver who reportedly was trying to max eco and range, lower speeds, no HVAC other than seat warmer for driver, etc. Got the efficiency way better at 454 Wh/mi which would be about 260 miles of real world range, the best we have seen so far.

We need many examples to draw conclusions. That one example said average speed 63 mph but they could also have really fast acceleration and no Regen or harder breaking than Regen can gather.

But if it's this bad I'll just get a Rivian.

I really like the CT and will probably buy one in the regular series, although it goes against my better judgement and I have not made a final decision. Already turned down the FS.

The painfully slow trickle of information over the past couple of months has been mainly disappointments. If real world experiences reported over the next couple of months are glowing my enthusiasm may partially return. Regardless, the combination of higher price, lower range etc.. really takes the shine off. Yes the new tech is cool as hell but we did not ask for it. As a true work truck this vehicle is a total miss. As an unusual sexy versatile tech show horse it may be a moderate success. It is definitely not what most of us expected or need.

Well, I’m not expecting the range to be 40% of advertised but it probably won’t be 80% either. It’s totally a guess for me but I’m expecting around 270, like Dandor shared in the article a few minutes ago. maybe 250. So yea, pulling a trailer that cuts that in half could be an issue for most who plan to tow things regularly.
'Range EXTENDER' for some ....Not cheap, but it will do!

I received the FS invite last week and decided to wait for the CT AWD for tax credit and do not want to pay extra $20K.
This thread had definitely put a lot of doubts on whether even to go forward with the CT AWD.
I have a LR model 3 from 2018. I am an early adopter of Tesla and have been a big supporter of them. Still remember how Elon scaled up model 3 production line by sleeping on the shop floor by working round the clock. Also the days when tesla was almost on verge of bankruptcy and needed all support.

I can understand getting 80% range in real world than advertised due to ideal driving conditions etc.
But if this range info on CT is true, then very disappointing. IMO definitely not worth it.

Can we stop this nonsense please. I could start my own range experiment at the top of a mountain and drive to the bottom. It would then show that Tesla's actually gain energy when driving and have unlimited range. These posts are nothing but FUD with people that have no experience driving EV's and don't understand the difference between a kW and kWh.
And when has ANY Tesla gotten anywhere near rated during first month of ownership?

There's just too much tendency to enjoy one.

This has not been the case for years. They were conservative with battery capacity in the beginning and then unlocked it. If you buy a new Tesla now, you won't have this experience.
I'm pretty sure that in one of the engineers talks, this exactly what they were expecting. Re: adding the extender, they eventually expect to get range over 500mi

I'm not surprised. Winter time and a big heavy vehicle. Summer time it should get around 250 on the highway as long as you stay around 75 mph. What does a 320 mile range F150 Lightning get? It will probably be something similar to that.

Frankly, I got turned off by these stats.
178 miles range is no starter to me. My turn is still 2 years away but if there's no better news by then, I'll cancel my order. I'm disgusted.
me too, I am waiting for a better battery and a better price!

Yea but if you are towing with the truck that will get cut in half, or worse.
So with 500 miles 250 is doable
With 190 miles of range 90 miles of trailering range won't get you from one super charger to another in a lot of the country.
Agreed that the drop in range, especially when towing is concerning. Everyone’s use case is different. I’m getting it primarily for towing but that’ll be a few times a month and most of the places I’ll be going it shouldn’t be a problem. If someone else’s use case is towing long distances weekly, that’s a whole other problem and this truck may not work for them. That’s when a decision has to be made because the range is the range. Maybe a Lightning or Rivian would be a better choice.

Yeah, I am a second day reservation holder, but I think I will wait a couple of years for the 3rd generation 4680 and a lower price.

Kyle with Out of Spec did a recent test of a Rivian R1T Max Pack which is rated at 420 miles of range.

He got no where near that.

I have an EV. And that is one of the reasons I reserved the 500 mile range Cybertruck back in November 2019. I knew I would never actually get 500 miles on one charge, but figured I would hope to get a bit over 400 miles.

If the EPA is 340 miles, I maybe down to real life 275ish? Lot different that my hoped for 400+. And I do drive fairly long trips several times of year and would love to have the longer range.
OR more chargers that can charge me from 10% to 80% in 10-15 minutes.
Yea the rivian's numbers were bad, but not that bad. Did you see the charging threads, CT taking over an hour to charge at a 250w charger from 15-90%. So 180 miles of range and an hour to mostly recharge, is tough.

I could deal with 250 miles of range if they could charge reasonably fast. Even on the V2 chargers the charge rate is really rough, like an hour to go from 15-90% :(
