safety-wise, an even worse decision - unless they’re harnessed in or crated
Hi,
I'm interested in the thought process here as an (inexperienced-in-transporting) dog owner. Are we talking about collision (bad for everyone), or the ability of dogs to interfere with the driver, or something else? (or all of the above). I have heard that transporting dogs (or people) in the bed of a pickup is dangerous. I think the poster was wondering if the tonneau cover made a difference there. I have heard (true) stories of dogs jumping out of the bed or even out of a lowered window from the cab, so I do agree there are elements of risk that should be considered. .... Or is the preferred method on the back seats vs seats folded up - if so why? I'm asking because I have two large German Shepherds and am wondering how to transport them. I, too, was thinking that folding up the rear seat would lower the dogs' center of gravity and make it a little harder for them to see and react to traffic (female is reactive, male is chill). Or maybe the best solution is crated and strapped in the bed? (might be worse in rear collision - not sure). Thanks for any insight. This might even deserve its own thread, actually. Cheers.

How about what part of Basic Autopilot is currently working and what software you are currently on. I need auto steer at a minimum and can’t wait for them to eventually roll it out. May have to pass it up and get what I really need full functionality of FSD, etc and range (I.e. Model S).

basically, an open bed is dangerous for reasons you suggested.

a closed bed dangerous to the dog, in that a hard braking incident or worse a collision, they become a free projectile in the enclosed bed area.

For similar reasons, a free dog in the cabin is even worse. In a hard braking incident or worse a collision, the dog becomes a free projectile in the cabin. this is true of anything ‘loose’ in the cabin. You do not want a back seat full of 5lb hammers - the cabin becomes a meat-blender. A lose dog, similarly, becomes a hazard not only to itself, but to the occupants.

if you don’t care about the dog, put them loose in the bed (with or without the tonneau closed).

if you don’t care about the dog or the occupants, put them loose in the cabin.

show me a person who reacts negatively to this suggestion, and I’ll show you a person that hasn’t been in a car wreck with a loose dog in the vehicle (bed or cabin)

I'm asking because I have two large German Shepherds and am wondering how to transport them.
Two options, best case for two large Shepherds:

(1) harnesses for the rear seat. Here the rear seat is down, and they ‘sit’ in the seat with the seatbelt that passes through the harness.

(2) quality traveling crates for the bed, using tie-downs.

because of the size of your dogs, there’ll be no option for crates in the rear cargo area of the cabin. And, in the bed, the tonneau will not close due to the size of crates.

the above (2) is how you’ll find people transporting eg high quality bird dogs in the field. Gunner crates offers a high quality product (priced accordingly)

thanks. Seems like the Harness is the way to go. Yeah, they’re too big for my travel crates now. Male is 100lbs, female is 76 lbs. Your feedback is much appreciated.

Homelink:
-Whether it has actual homelink built in or just MyQ
-Whether there is/will be an option for homelink to be installed as an accessory

Parking "sensors":
-Does the parking alert system work on delivery? Or is it, like autopilot, currently non-functional?

I realize the homelink accessory thing won't just be obvious, but maybe the delivery center you pick up from will have some information about it

Nice. Keep the questions coming. Not hijacking anything but these are the questions I'll answer in y video once the time comes for me.

dogs that big should be ok in the largest eg Gunner kennel

https://gunner.com/products/g1-kennel?variant=39378525814983

Unclear with the CT’s bed dimensions if two would fit side-by-side in the bed

true travel kennels shouldn’t leave the dog a lot of room - see again projectile issue

for in-cabin, you make a pretty good setup with harnesses. but dogs that big may also be a bit squirley with the narrow depth of the bask seat bottom.

so, the way to go may be harnesses combined with a quality “hammock” that permits pass-through of the searbelts

aside from the harnesses keeping them safe in an accident, it keeps them localized to the seat and not coming up on the front armrest

only thing you’ll have to consider is the age and temperament of your dogs to ‘accepting’ the harness setup. It’s often best to start dogs with this as puppies, unless they’re compliant adults. But starting as adult a bit of a dice roll as to how they’ll adapt.

if your dogs are already crate ~trained, you have eg Gunner travel kennels as a backup

Or combine both strategies, if they happen to after a long trip start to get to fussing in the harness, you swap them to the crates a while.

We use a rear seat dog hammock. Similar to this, it not only protects the dog but also protects the vehicles upholstery, too.

Im kind of tired of seeing reaction videos. I'd love to also see how waterproof the tonneau cover is as it's the "trunk" of a vehicle.

Putting it through a CAR WASH and seeing what it does to the stainless steel. Is it going to come out with massive streaks, some sort of blotchy/oily patches or completely change the color/tone of the Cybertruck.

Based on the other driving review videos I don't think it has any driver assist.
You can see here in the out of spec video, still no autopilot. Kyle had to do it manually for his test>

I'm taking delivery on Sunday (AWD). What questions remain for owners that haven't been addressed by current owners (ie employees)? I'll start creating a list of things I can answer.
Where in California are you?

A couple of them out there, between rain and spraying with a hose they all had some water in the vault/trunk
