Tesla will change Foundation Series order to Non-FS without penalty (YMMV)

Yeah not clear. Hopefully if you still have the same Reservation number you’ll keep your place in line when the regular AWD comes out. Only time will tell, I wish we could get concrete answers.

That will be the question for sure. My gut tells me the text implies a change to the order. To me it seems like I am not going to be re invited and that the order is in the system. Getting the amended doc's will tell us much.

Edit: The other question is how many FS will be built? If Tesla is going to build out all of 2024 with FS only, even if I keep my place inline I will be 2025 delivery. I am fine with that. Will be happy to keep my down payment and my low res#.

I was absolutely denied switching my FS order to Non FS. I called in and they put me on hold twice to get my answer. i even mentioned that it looked like others were approved. got the Generic answer of the "system" wont allow any changes. They suggested I cancel my order and place a new one but of course I would lose my deposits and the "system" is very sorry

"Spoke to 3 Tesla reps today from 3 different cities here in socal. They all gave me the same answer. Once your vin is assigned, you can downgrade your order from FS to standard, if you want to save the 20k. And say you decide not to go with the Cybertruck you can order another Tesla with the the $1000 and $250 deposit you put down for the CT. I asked in case I wanted to pull the trigger on these sub $40k Model Ys with the PoS tax credit.

but I think you all should call your local Tesla Center to get confirmation yourself as well. lol "

After seeing the low offer on my Lightning I will need to throw extra dollars at it to trade/sell. I also thought you could only take the EV credit once every 3 years. I found out today that is on used and that I will qualify for tax credit which will pay for my FSD at 7k. Giving Tesla some time to work out bugs and possibly improve battery chemistry may be a benefit to waiting on CT. All in all I wish I could take the FS but the AWD once available without the FS 20k will make most sense for me now.

After reading @KenpoJo post above I texted my Tesla rep assisting me with the FS order to test his findings. Keep in mind my order was placed on 1/9/2024 and do not have vin at this time. I received a text reply from my rep within 10 minutes lettings me know my order was changed to AWD non FS.

This is a relieve and for anyone rethinking your decision for a FS I would recommend this route before cancelling and loosing your down payment and place inline.

I have not been contacted via text for my 12/10 order. I have some generic 510 numbers that I’ve been texted from on past Tesla orders and when I have texted those about the CT (I did so last week) I received no reply. What did your initial text from them say?

I called up Tesla today, sales rep told me they could not do this. Only possible modification to my order is to cancel. and once I cancel, I will lose my queue. btw I did not have VIN yet. I am afraid once VIN is issued, I can not do anything. any advice?

This is why everyone needs to be careful and talk to their rep that has been communicating with them. To be sure what you are asking for.

That's so awesome if true, I just received my invite email today. Didn't want to lose out so I ordered. Would be great to change it later for non-foundation to save 20k plus the $7,500.. But then were would that put you in line, Instead of getting it in a few months or so, would it be next year? Who knows.

My advice it to buy the FS Cybertruck.

Neither the IRS nor Tesla websites list the CT (even the sub $80k variant) as eligible for the tax credit (or point of sale).

This really ONLY applies if you have received a Foundation Series invite and have actively ORDERED a Foundation vehicle.

If you ignore the invite or didn't place an order, your place in line is held and your reservation is maintained.
